On why I don't like multiplayer games

I was round a friends house this morning, and we played Unreal Tournament 2003 on the net, when I got there he was already playing, but when it was my turn, I changed my name to my current UT single-player profile, CuteBadger (which is named after the badger on my current avatar, not cos I reckon I'm cute ) and went on the map, which happened to be DM Plunge (my fave offline Skilled Botmatch) and soon I was happily fragging along with my trademark bouncy bouncy flak bouncing. Pretty much as soon as I fragged this guy, he asked "are u a gurl" to which I replied "no" and he sed "r u gay then" to which I replied again "no" all the while happily continuing the game, with no trouble from anyone else "u must b gay, witha name like tht" despite me not reponding to the positive I was treated to insults from this idiot child and his mate to the tune of "CuteBadger is a fag" "yah f*k off u homo". Now I'm not great at UT 2k3, but these guys I was being insulted by were easy prey. I wasn't the best on the server, but I wasn't near last place either. Personally I found the whole experience a little irritating. But I must say that vengence killings were a lot of fun, and many times I ignored more threatening players to frag these clowns. I don't know the Server name or anything, and I have been assured that most don't allow stuff like that. However I can say that the moment I get broadband CuteBadger will be making a return to the online arenas and woe betide anybody who thinks anything of that name. (please note I'm no match for anybody who plays online loads, I only play on Skilled bots offline)

I think mitoboy is right. They were probably feeling down because they were killed, the fact that they were insulting you was only demeaning themselves. They obviously think homosexuals are worse at playing. Yet they were being killed by one.....so the jokes on them eh?

There are also people out there who, lacking a real wit, turn to mindless insults they have heard other people use and try to pass them off as their own in a way they hope people will find funny. However the only people that do find them funny are, themselves and others like them.

What do you expect? That you shot somebody, they drop down in a bloody pile (having lost an arm or two), then get up and say

You think they dead in WW2 cheered in heaven on the remaining troops?
You think the vietnamese was doing betting on who had the least skin after a Napalm attack?
That the Iraqi soldiers praise the US soldiers for liberating them from their dirty religion and strict laws, including a fat Saddam?

They all swear, insult and curse you to the end of days, wether in hell or in heaven!

On another note, that's why you dont play normal games, just mods. When mods become normal (CS) they go downhill. Normal in this case meaning public access, that is sold in a store where any idiot can find it without much effort, and once they do they feel the need to justify their money, hence play.
A mod on the other hand, you have to find first. Then you have to decide whether to download it. Does it sound bad? You dont have to download it. But if you do, and you like it, you WANT to play it. Not because you have it, or that it is the only thing you can play, but because you CHOOSE to play it. Thus, you wont behave like an idiot, cause you want to play it like you want to play it, most often in a much better manner (example, team play oriented, darker, scarier, strategy, whatever). That's what we saw both CS and DoD did. And all the rest.

This is also why single player games are so much better. You play it like you want to play it. Even if its Doom 3, you dont HAVE TO run around braindead with a drooling mouth. You can sneak along the walls and do whatever you wish. You are the only one doing something, the rest is just the enviroment, you may do it in whatever way you wish.
Compare that to BF1942... Its good, but you arent the only one. You just get pulled in any direction, without any controll over what you do. There isnt an order in it. How many times does anyone think "If we only did THIS instead of rushing, we would win in 20 seconds"? I did it VERY often. But it doesnt work to think. Its just a playground with alot of people, each has its own mind. Its hardly a game anymore, there is no experience, no rules.
A very neat playground indeed, but still no rules.
UT2k3 is exactly the same.

That's why I'm making a mod with a grouping system where you can create squads to gain bonuses, and on top of this a further "friendlies close" bonus. Everything to try and create these rules, that will more or less make people work as a team to actually be effiecent.
And then... No swearing against dudes. You might see people swearing against teams, but that isnt the same. You have team members to back you up and swear back!

Dawdler....Its a game. Its meant for fun. When you die you arent really hurt. You cant compare it to real life like you did. Thats just stupid.
I doubt theres many soldiers alive from world war 2 today who are actually annoyed at the german soldiers. Because thats just it, the germans were soldiers just like the allies were soldiers. Both sides will realise they were doing what they had to to survive. Im sure there is some hatred but likely towards the leadership.
I remember before CS went retail, there will still lots of people who were annoying and would just mess up the game. Thats why i stopped playing it. Im sure plenty of people who you find annoying and who bought the game CHOOSE to play it rather than feel they have to. If i personally dont like a game i wont play it, even if i did spend money on it. There are plenty of servers you can go to where there are rules and people abide by them. You cant put rules into the game because there would likely be a lot of people who wouldnt like them (meaning they wouldnt play the game and it wouldnt make any money). Its best to lay down the foundations and let the people who play decide on the rules.

has anyone heard of the mod- snarkwars? now we need more mods like that stupid funny mods which u can have a laugh with. And btw dawdler i think ull find that TFC2 is making the game very much teamplaying so buy buy buy . If people insult u childishly go one better then them either be even more childish like "hehehe ure stupid" or "hehe u smell like poo poo" then they will think ure weird and ignore u or however u can act responsivly and say things like "oh god wot a loser stop being immature" it works with me either they shut up or ull start enjoying teasing them lol ( i hope that made sense it didnt to me)

Yea, I've hated CS for a long time though. I haven't enjoyed playing it since the 40 server days (yes I played it then) when mansion was the funnest level =P. I got half-life like the month it came out and have been playing it online for a long time, I find that the more popular a mod gets the more lame it gets. I hate like league players and stuff, like in TFC how everything was about bunny-hopping and they just exploit the game in various ways through strategies, I mean thats not really the point of it, then the whole hacking thing came about and now everyone hacks, I mean everyone too, my bro plays CAL and he hacks, you can spec peeps and tell they are hacking, its lame as hell really cause its not that those league players are even good gamers they just practice like one mod forever.. also i generally wouldn't be offended by childish insults, it usually has to be something clever and witty to annoy me, =O. If you don't want to be called gay don't call yourself cute-badger, their is intolerance in the world, its not a little happy frosted cake despite how you would like to theorize it as such... I mean if you think its that important to defend your non-masculine feminine sounding name then you need to learn to cope with name-calling dude.

What i was saying is that when you get shot in real life, you will feel real pain and likely really annoyance towards the person who did it. Of course in a game you might get annoyed because you were hit but nothing bad actually happened to you. You are still alive and healthy. Perhaps your ego might be damaged but its nothing that a little fragging cant fix. You cant compare two things which are so fundamental different. You say what can we compare it to. Well....why do we need to compare it anything? Obviously games are taking aspects of real life, but only the fun aspects. Yes yes i know dieing isn't fun, but like i said. "You are still alive and healthy"

EDIT: Just saw the snark wars thing. Man that mod was great. I loved turning people into snarks. I remember that running from a snark which was intelligent, was for some reason really scary.

At any rate, what I meant earlier was, we only have real life to compare it too. We can not compare it with anything else. Cause there is nothing else to compare with. If one starts comparing fake worlds with fake worlds, something is wrong. Its still a fake world and nothing you can compare with...

I played lan games. I dont think there ever was a server. Perhaps whenthe mod first came out a couple of people played. Another great mod which did ok actually still sometimes has servers, is rocket crowbar. That had a lot of crazy stuff in. Plus it let you have monsters in the map by use of a .cfg file. You could place them while in the game which was fun. You could also become certain creature and some of them had extra powers. I loved being a Garg and wasting everyone. Then there was the Apche...... If you really wanted you could bring a Sven Coop type of feel to it by making maps with a story. I made and played a couple of lan sometimes and it was great fun. You could even theme the map so that you were say....an alien and even play through the map as that alien. It was great.

Edit: dawdler i don't think you will have but i hope that you haven't taken my posts the wrong way. Its all in good....something. Cant think of the work right now but anyway I'm not trying to be malicious or anything.

Im not sure if its been mentioned already, but not ever server has assholes like that, if your on a server like that, leave! Online play is tons of fun when you have a good friendly team,.

When playing quality games such as Halflife and its mods. I usaually go on either Bygames or jolt. They are pretty good. Not much lag (if you live in the Uk or close by/without to many server jumps). People tend to stick to the rules and if they dont you can always call an admin.

He's right you know. I don't know much about the Jolt admins for UT2K3, but I know the BYGames admins are very helpful
