One Month to HL2 Release

Well, if you've pre-orderd it, your GOING to get it on the 30th. Or else what would be the point of pre-ordering it?

LOL I would choose HL2 over Doom3, Halo, Stalker, etc combined. And as I said before, I have very little respect for console ports.

and hl2 only took like a year or 2m most of the time was spent developing the source engine

It takes a couple of days for the retailer to recieve the game after it's shipped.

Indeed.

You will get to play the game on the 30th of September because Valve have always referred to "30th of September" as the release date. Which is when the game gets released.

The game ships a few days before the release date.

A lot of people say "Ship date" when they mean to say "Release date", don't let this confuse you.

Hmm, if you think of it...
4 weeks. 24 times going to school. Imagine how fast four weeks are over. And the first week I'm having fun in a study camp. Then its only three weeks because the first week went by so fast because it was so fun. Yikes!!!

This is getting scary

Oh yeah, sometimes I do wonder what pre-ordering is good for. of course your sure to get it, but I'm always afraid of the shop guy forgetting I preordered it.

Imagine those guys who preordered Duke Nukem 4ever, 5 years or so ago when it was shown at E3 1998. All shops started to accept pre orders.

Surprisingly, I remember with Unreal Tournament 2003, it went Gold on October 10th, and was released October 20th. Less than 10 days, and it was already produced and shipped to stores. So the game I would assume between the 18th and 21st - is when the master copy will be shipped off for prodcution, sent out, and on store shelves by the 30th.

EDIT: I might have my dates on UT2K3's release date messed up, but I'm just giving a vauge idea of what the time frame was.

I beg to differ. Latest quote from Doug:

It'll be tight, but Half-Life 2 is still on for a September 30th ship

Like I said, people use Ship date when they mean Release date. I mean, what's the sense of telling people when the game will be dispatched to the stores?

Other quotes:

Vossey: Can you assure us of a September 30th release of Half-Life 2?
Lombardi: Yes. No change in the release date is planned. The September 30th date is worldwide. In France as well as England.

The first question was on Half Life 2's release date, and they are 100% committed to a 30th September release

Finally, obviously there's been a lot of talk about, and confusion surrounding, Half-Life 2's release date following statements from Vivendi. Can you confirm now whether you're still on track to hit the September 30 date?

Lombardi: The release date's unchanged.

And so on.

To reiterate, It would be rather silly to tell people when the game is dispatched to stores instead of when the game will be on the shelves.

fortunately im on a gap year, currently only with a part time job, living on my own in my families old house (which is for sale admittedly

I just hope the game is actually released everywhere in the US in September 30th. I usually purchase my games from Best Buy here in California. :)

must...have....HL2!

*goes into a coma*

wake me on september 30th

Valve shouldnt have announced this til it went gold, theyd still sell shitloads!

There is no way Valve can predict when a game will arrive at stores as all stores are in different locations and have different procedures for dispatching new releases to the shelves. Some companies (Microsoft, Blizzard) do what you mentioned and ship a game a few days earlier. Really this is just a small technical issue and it doesn't matter since we already waited 4 months.

BUT I will strike down with great vengeance and furious anger those who will complain that they don't see HL2 at their local store on Sept. 30, Oct. 1, or even Oct. 2.

would pre ordering be a good idea? Cause i'm thinkin of preordering it on my birthday the 13th so i don't have to go into the stores and look around like crazy for it.

I don't see much of a point in pre-ordering, unless you are incredibly lazy or don't live near any stores. If you go buy it at a store, you can get it the day it is released. If you pre-order then you might have to wait an extra 1-3 days to receive it, meanwhile you are sitting at home wishing you could go to the store and buy it.

The shipping isn't really up to Valve. The gold date is up to Valve. It's Vivendi who publish the game, print the packages and send them off. That's their job. After the Gold date, Valve pretty much just sits back and waits.

Vivendi won't just wait around for 10 days after it goes gold then send the game off on the 30th.

Some shops may have Half Life 2 a day or two late, it depends on the turnover, but the major chains will have the game on 30th September.

Valve have been referring to the release date, we will get to play it on the 30th of September.

I'm asking my local EBgames if they plan on having it on hte 30th. Probably the best way to find out.

Ah the EB syndrome again...

Listen I dont mean to be a jerk but EB is not affiliated with Valve or Vivendi they know about as much as you do maybe less.

I got a copy pre-orded @ EB. I talked to one guy and he said the 19th of november(this was @ the beginning of August). So I really doubt it would be put of till november...I wish EB would get there act together.

I ment i was asking them if this particular store would have it on the release date when ever it is or if they would be a day or 2 late.

Yeah, some of you guys better not ask for the 30th off :) You will be waiting until the 1st of October to install it. Best bet in my opinion, go to your local EB (or somewhat respected shop) the day after the ship date (ship date = Sept 30th) and get it. For me , I know that the UPS truck drops it off at my store at 11am so I can grab one of the non-preorderd copies quickly.

I'm sure that the Fiesta Cat would approve if HL2 comes out September 30th.

(God, I really need to buy an SA account, since I'm ripping them constatly off :afro: )

Where is HL2....................

Most places still think its November when they release it. *rollseyes*

Do NOT go to gamespy for release dates, theyve always been horrible

I think they're just as bad as everywhere else. It at least gives you an idea.

30th September is the Release date not the ship date.

Ill be happy when the game is out so that we can all shut the hell up about gold/ship/release dates

Any date other than Sept. 30th is horsecrap. I was just in EBGames in the King of Prussia Mall in PA yesterday, I asked the guy for craps and giggles, and he still said Nov. 20th. lol. Sept. 30th is the date...just give it another week or two, (into the month of September), and you'll be hearing alot more of it.

Weve heard too much of it already

*gets gun and kills self, misses out on HL2 :( *

hopefully it'll be on steam on sept 30th, I'll just download it if I have to and buy a 2nd copy at the store :p

ugh i cant wait, i have to goto university... :( my workload will be big, but there is always room FOR HL :p

cant wait :D getting new system next week... waiting is almost over!!!!!!
