From Wikipedia on 17th century Occasionalist philosopher Arnold Geulincx:
"[Geulincx] summerized his philosophy as "Ita est, ergo ita sit"..."
Helpfully, this comes sans translation. So with the help of an on-line Latin dictionary I got the rather dubious "So/thus is, therefore so/thus to be thirsty"

Any Latin speakers?

I know est = is, ergo = therefore

Grumio in horto Matellae delectat. Floci non facio!

"So it is, therefore be it so."
Very first google listing...

Hmm, est means is, ergo means therefore...

Hmm...I'll tell ya in a sec.

EDIT: Nevermind, Ikerous got it.

i took 3 years of latin in high school. i really wish when i took it i was as mature as i am now. i would have paid more attention and enjoyed it.

I am taking it also...

Yes, the dead language that really helps in learning the horribly inane grammatical structure of the English language. :p It comes in real handy that Latin...

Omg, Scintilla in casa laborat! :p (Yes, I know more than that...)

And my all-time favorite:

OMNES RIXAM RESISTO!

That is totally a magic spell, I swear.

Perdite tu Scaeleste.

Dirtiest phrase possible in latin, likely the grammar is wrong.

Also irrumator, and such.

Second year of AP Latin (Year 4 to all you non americans). I hate it with a passion, but the teacher/principle keeps manipulating my schedule so I'm put back in it. I've taken it six years in all: 2 years intro, Caesar, Cicero, Ovid, Catullus, Virgil, and my favorite, Horace. Except for Horace I hate it all.

Exegi monumentem and all...

El Chi, I speak latin fluently, better than english infact!

Latin is a dead language, stop speaking it!
Sadly, so is my dear friend Geulincx and Wikipedia are just too damn lazy to actually offer a translation. Bastards. Dirty, feckless bastards, the lot of 'em.

God of the Machine
Machine of the Gods
Tool of the Gods

Its basically all the same ;).
no! It's "God from the machine" It refers to greek plays in which the plot was resolved by lowering a "god" from a crane-like device. The god would proceed to straighten everything out. Thus it now refers to a similiar ending to a story, or an event/device in real life which solves all problems.
