I kept hearing from various people, that in HL2, the G-man is supposed to tell you who he is, and why he is using you. However, I saw none of that... And I hear people have seen the G-man throughout the game, multiple times, (I only saw him once, on a TV, in an old house.)

Any ideas, folks? :dork:

Yeah, there were assumptios that we'd learn more about the GMan... but we didn't really. His identity and motives are even less clear now, although it does now seem more probable that the GMan is not human.

Here's what I know:

The G-Man has the cabability of travelling through time, and dimensions; like Q from Star Trek. Also, he picked up Gordon Freeman because of his ability to survive, (this was revealed in the ending of Opposing Force. He admires people who can survive.) He and his associates wanted to gain control of the Xen. He also wanted the Combine destroyed. So, I wonder whether he knew the Combine would come to Earth, if allowed to conquore the Xen first; effectivly luring them to Earth for Gordon Freeman, (the trap), to deal with.

The only question remaining is: Why is this "G-Man" sending Gordon through various times on Earth, to complete certain, vauge goals? Let's take the first paragraph as a fact, for a moment. That would mean, he wasn't working towards the conquest of the Xen, in the first game. He was working towards a complete freeing, (for the lack of a better term), of the Vortigaunts, and the annihilation of the Combine. (I say this, since the Nihilanth was their first slave-holder. This was revealed by talking to a Vortigaunt.)

WHY?????? :(

Your goal from the gman in half life 2 is to cut the combines connection with earth, hence the destrcution of the citadels dark fusion reactor.

Yesh, my dear Samon, I understand that. But it appears that the G-Man knew everything from the start. He knew a interdimensional species would take over Earth if the Resonance Cascade happened. (The name "Resonance Cascade" reveals some things in itself.) So he was working to rid Earth of the Combine, all along. But, I bet you ten euros, (not really), that something will come out of that in HL3. That by cutting the connection, as you put it, from the Combine will spurr something else.

I still didn't like the ending. =\

It would also appear that you aren't the only one who knows of the G-Man. When you finally meet Breen, he talks about how you've been an excellent pawn for those that control you, and that your contract is open to the highest bidder.

It's as if Breen was trying to "purchase" you from the G-Man. He obviously knew more than he was telling.
