well its almost 9/30/04, and i thiink that we as a community should do something to commemerate it :)


its like the centerpeice of all this crap that happoned...


on a side note, did anyone actually belive at valve that it would come out? i mean its a year of work later and we still dont have it...
 
I think in March 2003 Valve thought they'd be able to make the date. They were less sure at the end of August.

Agreed. Valve pretty much etched "Summer" in stone.

I feel like Avery Brooks (Ben Sisko, DS9) in that IBM commercial: -

"It's the year 2000. But where are the flying cars?"

"I was promised flying cars! I don't see any flying cars? Why? Why? Why?"

It beggars belief that they misjudged it so badly though. It's a real shame because it caused so much bad feeling towards them by so many community members. However, the year's wait can only have been good for the game.
We're so close.

Aye, when you look back it doesn't seem that long (although some people will disagree with me).

Yes that would be nice, but that really out of VALVe's hands and into Vivendi's. I'm sure VALVe wants it to go gold more then we do so that can finaly wash there hands of it drink champagne, smoke ciggars, and get to work on the real HL2 multiplayer, DoD:Source :thumbs:
 
doesnt feel like a long time? i've finished high school, gone on about 5 holidays, done a semester of uni, dropped out, had 2 jobs, been with multiple girls, and wasted a whole lot of time. it seems like forever since last year.
maybe your year was different.

Yeah but I think the point Feath and I were making (correct me if I'm wrong Feath) is that, yeah a lot of things have happened over the course of our year, but the wait hasn't really been so bad and the time seems to have gone fairly quickly.
Y'see some people complained that the wait was ridiculously long but they always seemed to be on the edge of their seat. Like you said, we've been through a lot of things in our normal lives and because of that, the wait for a game has just been this other little thing. Of course, the game ought to be awesome but that doesn't mean your life's on hold. Some people acted as if it were.
 
we need to memorise this date for years to come...every year a 30 of september fest :)
 
I'd like to share this year old PM sent to me after Doug Lombardi sent word to a number of sites that the game was delay.

I know your a pretty understanding guy, so just hear me for a second. I think the Doug email is a fake. If you read my thread and goto it's link....about the Gabe email which was sent not too long ago...it shows Gabe's email from the Asia Pacific. Then it was routed to Australia. So that was condemned as a hoax. Yet, it gives me reason to believe that the Doug email is a hoax as well. I've emailed Steve over at Shacknews to send me the header to Doug's delay email. Once I have that im going to trace the IP address. Just wanted to inform you. I'll keep ya up to date what happens.

And he wasn't the only one. A lot of people didn't believe that the game was delayed.
 
Hmmm...how to commemorate 9/30/04. How about we all line up and let Gabe Newell give us each a swift kick in the crotch, cause that's what this development cycle is starting to feel like.
 
I thought tha game was gonna be released the 20th of September, I guess I was wrong.

the free food and the gifts were supposed to be here but I'm afraid they have been delayed

Unexpected things can happen while making a game. Valve felt pretty sure it would be the summer of 04, but that doesn't mean something couldn't come along and delay it further.

I am sure they could have released it in mid summer.. but the game wouldn't be as polished.

But I still agree... release before Sept 30 would be uber cool.
 
and uber impossible unless it went gold at least a week ago... sadly

One year ago.....I cant belive I remember this, it was the day after the announcement from the big cheese himself that the werent gonna make it to the September 30 date.
