This is bullshit. Seomtimes HL2.net feels like the 3rd reich.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=50658

It is important to moderate online discussion. However, using this power, in such a massive forum as this, must be done with wisdom and discretion. Letting personal feelings interfere with judgements or being close minded to the will of the community is a mar on the image of a site like this.

Munro does not own the HL2 community. He simply created a place for us to get together. He really needs to check himself here. Trying to controll us by narrowing our discussion will backfire as it will drive away some of better contributers (such as myself).

If HL2.net is kept on a short leash, it will wither.

Do you know the whole story of this sacking? If yes, please tell, if no, why not wait before judging....

Oh and I wish people would stop referring to the mod/admin team as the third reich (and variants), it's overly dramatic and quite childish. They make the rules, you deal with them. If you don't like them, tough shit.

still, why CLOSE an off-topic thread in an off-topic forum??

While I do disagree with Munro's decision (as it seems Icarus could have been let off with a warning), this thread you are reading is about censorship in reguards to the closing of that thread.

so give us something to judge by instead of just silencing us. seriously, times like this I feel like its about time to move on to another community.

some of the staff here deals with things so awfully its pathetic.

Munro is das Führer we must do his bidding!

no but firing Icarus is probably the worst move he could make! Such a beloved and devoted comunity personality should not be wasted like this! I suspect that Munro felt that Icarus gained to much popularity and put himself in the shadows. Cuz the motives on firing him seems a little weird. Maybe a warning the most if they made a deal. But firing him seems to be out of hand.

See thats the thing, we DON'T know if he was already issued a warning by Munro or someone else. Thats the thing, its pure speculation, and I don't think we should worry about it, till after we all have played/beaten hl2, then we can get back to the matter at hand. Don't make these 2 up coming days hell, because everyone will feel bad/angry with each other.

EXACTLY. I knew sh33p would get it.

I totally agree.

to be fair I thought the thread should have been locked by page one, it got outta hand way too fast ..that said, I feel bad for Icarus, but I dont think you guys should be jumping all over Munro cuz we dont know what happened. Icarus I hope it all works out, if anyone deserves a full explanation it should be you ..the rest of us can mind our own business

Yeah it was a pretty bad move. but we don't know the full story yet so we can't make proper judgements because we've only heard one-side of the story

To bad, he was a good mod, very fair and very good.

I think Munroe was scared that Icarus was taking over.

I just comment about the info we got from Icarus thread..all i wrote was just speculation..i dont judge Munro....yet. Hes a good guy!

In response to TDE saying munro won't be happy...

He even refused after I agreed to do as he said and notified before I did anything, and even then he said that it was too late for that now.

So I know I'm gone

I wasn't referring to you specifically, just in general.

Look,. heres my main point of contention.

If the community does not approve of a move by an admin, we should be able to speak up and let them know. If we are shut down and muted, we are denied the ability to protest.

Is not HL2.net forums a community by and for the fans of HL2?

Is it not us that the site wishes to represent?

If so, they should listen to our words with a fair and level perspective, and act in a way which is in our best interest.

If not, then HL2.net simply should not pretend to represent HL2 fans.

I don't think anyone here is allowed to have an opinion on the subject besides Icarus and Munro.

Now be a good little citizen and shut up, because that is what authority wants you to do :D

Icarus was on his final warning for banning people with no reason.. I believe it was you cybersh33p who he'd banned.

Munro has over the months been VERY fair with him when by rights he should have come down harder.

You people have NO idea whats gone on in private, you just think immediately Icarus is in the right.. completely forgetting about the times he's banned you for the smallest reasons, the threads he's deleted, locked. The warnings given over silly things, Icarus milk ring a bell?

Whats really funny is not one of you realises he's done this on purpose to start up a fuss

What he hasn't told you fully, he wasn't just begging for his position back, he was almost crying

This isn't to do with freebies, its to do with Icarus going off and doing things for MUNRO's site without getting permission first, agreeing on deals and plans without seeing if he was even allowed to.

Nothing is mentioned about how he wanted to beat down on someone just cause they quoted a single line from some book.

Yes Icarus did some good things for the site, but he also made a lot of mistakes and was given a lot of chances. Making a one sided thread like that was bound to trick the simple minded.

ITS JUST A MOD, not even a proper job fcol, it isn't the end of the world. Now, for the love of god, stop using it as an excuse to whine and moan about the site like children and get over it.

Sorry Icarus but your out of line doing this then stepping back to watch the trouble its caused. It was embarrasing enough that you wouldn't leave the staff channel, but doing this just lowers you even further.

This is one of those situations where it would be better if the admins told us the full story.

You know how everyone wanted to know why hl2 was delayed, and how extremely frustrating/annoying/unprofessional Valve's behaviour was? It feels a little like that.
