When i install hl2 from steam will i have to be connected to steam to play it or can i just use it as if it weren't assoicated with steam?

you will need to be online for the first time, so you can activate it, then there will be an offline mode.

After you unlock the HL2 files you can start steam in offline mode by being disconnected to the internet when starting steam. You will get the choice to either close steam or to start it in offline mode.

If you don't save the pasword you'll have to connect everytime you want to play.

no, when you have downloaded from steam you HAVE to have steam running.

will there be instructions on how to get all this offline mode and saved passwords properly configured? cause i dont want to have just taken the temporary modem out of my comp and have to connect again.

SO YOU GO ONLINE -> AUTHORISE YOUR ACCOUNT -> SAVE THE PASSWORD(S) (I assume thats a fairly easy process) -> THEN YOU CAN OPEN STEAM WITHOUT BENG ONLINE? THUS BEING ABLE TO PLAY HL2 WITHOUT AN INTERNET CONNECTION

Hey, common... VALVe has made the next step in piracy protection software/methods. It's annoying, but perfect and flawless.... besides, you all will stop bitching when its out.... I wont "reapear" on the surface of reality for 10 Hs. when i'll star playing. Relax... just a little more... you can do it.

Of course Hackers and Crackers will find a crack or patch... but the beuty is that STEAM will change, adapt to the cracks and Patches... a self protecting program with updates...

im sure someone who really wants to could find a way to bypass the need of steam period... as their is one unbreakable rule of thumb... Any man made system either software or hardware can be broken....


and from what i understand the game on cd/dvd will not even need to until you do the first patch upgrade.
im not to sure but that is what i been hearing...
