Ooooh, Shiny!

not too bad although id be a (very) little bit concerned a few ppl couldnt find the forum link, hopefully thats just habit but since it used to e at the top. anyway good job guys, now the fun part starts, maintanence.

Yay!! Good work dudes, lovin' the new skinneh.

Here's my opinion on the whole thing:

Although I'm not extremely bothered about the "new look" as it incorporates an extremely similar design to the previous one; I must comment on the incredibly annoying straight, bland, grey lines. It just seems like a step down from the sleek presentation we had before- although I do appreciate the extra emphasis on the category headings.

On to the new content. I haven't got time to read it all (I've read three of the "new" articles and skimmed the rest), and before I comment on the articles themselves, I have a few things to point out concerning the interface. Firstly, presuming these articles will be up for years to come, I doubt anyone will care the exact time they were posted. However, I'm sure people will be interested in the date they were posted; so surely you could remove the annoying (2005-05-14 11:24:49) bracket and instead replace it with the month and year that they were written in. I mean, nearly all of them were written before Half-Life 2 was released, and it's very confusing to see "2005" hovering above them. My last concern is that I have to open the article to see who wrote it. As a community member, I know most of the content writers quite well, and I prefer some people's style of writing over others.

On to the actual articles. While some of them are obscure (err... Half Life as a religion?) they're all well written, and entertaining to read (especially Sulkdodd's- his style of writing is hilariously unique! I know if he was here now he'd tell you all to read his story- it's great!). I haven't read any of the other features yet, such as Chris_D's review, but I'm sure they're excellent.

In fact, this part of my post is dedicated to the content writers, for slaving over word processors to come out with decent material for us all. So thanks

Also, will the Fan art and Fan Fiction sections be open to submissions, so that everyone can hand in their work? Me and Sulkdodds have a rather tantalising HL2 comic in the works, and I'm going to be writing a lot in the Summer, hopefully inspired by the lack of schoolwork. In the meantime, some fanfictions could be plucked out of this forum (There was a rather spiffy one called "resistance" if I remember, a name which I didn't intentionally steal for my comic) and there are plenty of "Halflife2.net Art Contest" winning entries that could be put on display; I've always said they should be placed on the front page.

Can't think of anything else to comment on for the moment, So I'm going to read some more articles :D

*edit* BAH!

Ah... forgot about the image gallery. The idea is you'll be able to login with your forum account and upload your images to the fan art gallerys. You will also be able to create your own gallerys to showcase your work.

I dunno how that will work exactly, but couldn't someone just randomly upload bad pictures e.g. of Chris_D's face etc, stuff thats so horrific, then we see all those pictures. Just wanna make sure if my mates are looking they think WTF has this game got 'this' in it for.

edit: gotcha email, im insulted i aint left for like a year, can't welcome me back, oh and for the foot note, i'll bring the toys around again yeah, no problem.

Will need an admin to authorise it before it's publically viewable.

it could never be as bad as what amped did to fpscentral :( i use to love that place, now it sucks.

when they changed, it was a nonstop flamewar, and i was one of the flamers, i bet their designer had to feel like poo, getting paid to make inferrion quality.

halflife2net, good site, i don't mind the changes, wouldn't have ever noticed if you didn't say anything.

could you possibly change the banner periodically though? I love dogg, but getting kinda old

well i am glad i am not the only one who hates the damn thing lol

That sounds like a very cool idea; especially for all the artists among us :D
