I currently have XP which is giving me thousands of problems, and had 2000 which gave me less but more severe problems. I was wondering, does HL2 support windows 98. And, is there any benefit to being on 98 instead?

Yes, HL2 will support Windows 98.

However, Windows 98 is far far far buggier than Windows XP. I have it dual booted, it's crap compared to XP. Slow, annoying, and ugly.
Now, 98 wouldn't be too bad if it had a proper task manager, however, once explorer crashes, you're done for; forced to restart.

Also, a fair warning, alot of companies/etc are starting drop support for Windows 98. Even Microsoft themselves are dropping (continued) support for 98 in the coming months.

Then why does XP **** everything up for me? And 2000...christ forget it, 2000 had a new error every day for me. I just don't get why I can't have a stable goddamn system. My latest problem on XP, it's recognizing my 9800 in a PCI slot when its in an AGP slot, so none of my games work cuz theres no AGP memory "allegedly." I hate this shit. :( So between xp and 2000, which one should I give a shot to again.

Well, have you updated your BIOS, made sure BIOS are set properly, updated your Windows AGP drivers? Updated.. in general, everything pertaining to your motherboard?

Shortly put - yes.

Well, if XP is giving you trouble, your only bet is 2000.
That AGP problem sounds very odd, though..

Imo it sounds like a motherboard problem... you should test the card in another system to see if its the card or the mobo.

I had 98SE on this box for awhile, the problems were always very numerous and they wouldn't stop, and it was slow as hell. I've never had XP but from all the times I've used it I can say it's not the best, and being a 98 vet of 4-5 years I can say the layout is feckin confusing. Recently I did a complete reformat and booted up with 2000pro, after running Windows Update and installing all the latest drivers I can honestly say it hasn't given me a single problem, and the layout is familiar to 98.

XP works fine for me, alltho I've only had it on my gaming comp for a year, the only problem I ever had was that my PC stoped recognizing my sound card.

and I have a 9800XT, sadly I havn't had any of your problems :\

I ran Windows 2000 for two years and XP for one. Different computers, and I've had no problems with either. But then again, they both did have really good mobos :D

yea 2000 Pro is the most stable windows system out there, followed closely behind by XP, anything before that and you're just going to run into more problems.

If you can get a legit. copy, Server 2003 might be worth a look. All the stability of 2000 with the user friendliness of XP - just without all the eye candy. What NT was meant to be.
