The team over at Operation Black Mesa have released a small update which can be read here[br]
Well seeing as how it has been quite a little while since we here at the Operation Black Mesa mod team have said anything, we found it to be the time to write a news post so as to not keep the general public in the dark about what has been going on within our mod.
The team have also released a texture Combat Knife which you can see below.[br]Head on over to their forums to keep up to date with the latest from these guys.[br]

A rendering of a military knife?! Can it be true!? My god what a mod! I must have it! Look at the beauty of the knife! What progress they show, Mod of the year!

/bitch slap

Damn your sarcasm!

I'd have to agree on that one...kind of made me rofl.

A generic one too. ;)

We all love media releases, but this is a joke.

You call that a knife!? This is a knife!

Aside from that, updates are great to just know certain mods are still going, and attention is brought to the work they are doing, to build their fanbase and following. We support the hard work from these individuals & teams.

I can see you've played knifey--

no, actually i've decided that i'm not going to say it.

Fair enough, but the sceptic inside me says that an update like this is just delaying the inevitable.

Yeah actually please don't. Really don't. The only good mods out there is Black Mesa: Source and Natural Selection 2. The rest is:
  1. Fun for 15min
  2. Utter shit.

So you want us to limit our coverage to...two mods....

Riiiiiight

Have you played either one? No.

Yes,that's some news right there.

"Awww, you still got the forum lil buddies" ;)
*pets hl2.net news posters

why cant mods pool all the render/untextured weapons they've made into one place. That would be the largest selection of AK's and knifes in the world. :/

Erm...need I remind you this is an actual news post and therefore has a topic, which we are miles from currently. Lets stick with that please.

Also hool10, that comment is completely absurd, talk for yourself.

It's a shame that more mods don't release more updates like this one...

Fine, then name me a mod that caught your attention like the mods I said already. Oh I also forgot Garry's Mod.

See my sig. Those all caught my attention... whether or not you like them is a matter of taste and totally irrelevant really, but fact is that the mods in my sig all have quality work to show. Off the top of my head I'd add Insurgency and Eternal Silence as two other mods that caught my attention, in the way of high production quality. (oh and that mod which showcased the suction into space vid)

That aside, I do have to admit that personally I have an issue with mods only releasing renders of a knife and/or baseball bat.
I've seen this so often... when chatting with friends we actually call mods that seem to be going nowhere 'baseball bat mods' precisely because of this.
(I'm not implying that this mod is going nowhere at all - but there is pattern, you can't deny)

Whilst info on new mods is always welcome, my criticism lie with the mod creators themselves.
Releasing only a render of a knife is hardly what is going to draw a crowd and as mentioned there are 100's of mods that have done just that. (some (very few) have gone on to release more, but for the most part that is all you will ever see of them again)
As a mod maker wouldn't you want to display a little more quality when advertising your stuff?
The "good" or interesting mods I have witnessed all seem to have waited a while until they have gained more and more interesting assets before they released any visual promos.

Personally I'd wait longer until I had more assets before showing anything like that for the reason I mentioned above.
Even if the aim of the mod maker is to recruit, I'd personally just omit the baseball bat/knife render and just post text info.

I really think that most people here taking the proverbial Michael out of that screenie are not taking digs at you lot here at HL2.net for posting that news - we all like fresh info, but rather like me, have seen this type of promo once too often.

I think this has set an interesting debate on mod PR'ing really. Thread time someone?

Other interesting mods:
HL2WiiMod
PVKII
Goldeneye mod

And my mind forgets the other one..isotx team...damn

Did any of you guys actually go to their site? Look at the news under 3/7, plenty more contents there. Unskinned and concept, but still.
