just re-installed this game, and truly remembered how awesome it is, just finished the American campaign...was Challenging too say the least! Anyways, What are your thoughts on this game and what's your Favorite level? gogogo hl2.net!:)

Sadly I never played this game. I should pick it up one of these days.

Can never get enough of it really lol. Genious of a game, recently got a mate of mine into it, he loves it now. My favourite level would have be the stranded mission on the Russian missions. You and a Pvt are stranded on the yank island, you have to assault that base, steal a chopper, blow up some planes in nearby airport, forced to land. Go back to the first base, take a fuel truck, run over some soldiers on the way back, refuel, only just make it to and stationed repair truck miles away before running out of fuel. THEN destroy 1 convoy, rescue a stranded unit, destory ANOTHER convoy before heading home.

Brilliant.

The stranded mission after Montingnac Must Fall on the US missions was awsome too, as well as the tank battle of the resistance missions, set up all my tanks just below a rise on the terrain to sheild them from tank fire, but just high enough to shot over it, was awsome as the tanks appeared in the distance, and having my tanks fire in sequence and just seeing the enemy tanks be blow up in the distance.

I really really need to find a copy that has the expansions and is already patched.

I just have a lowly $5 jewel case vanilla OFP that I bought from EBGames without a cd-key. :|

How come it didnt come with a cd-key when you bought it in a EBGames Store.

OpF is a Legendary game. I wish I had more time to play it these days.

It was in the used games bin... it just came with a case and a cd.

I loved the mission creator, you could basically setup any scenario imaginable.

5 hinds vs 10 anti air infantry units? Abrams vs T80? Fun for the whole family. :)

Operation Flashpoint demands a porn spinoff titled Operation: Fleshpoint

I'd pay for that. srsly

Absolutely adore this game. Own Red Hammer and Resistance also, they are quality. Favourite mission for the original is probably when you spend time with the resistance on Everon, saving the odd hostage and driving a truck of 'supplies' through Russians lines undercover.

I am eagerly awaiting OFP 2.

I had another look for this today but I couldn't find it. :( Guess I'll order it from the nets.

Just started it again, on veteran, and im amazed at the change in difficulty. The enemies are much smarter and deadlier, and you can no longer see you and other units on the map, which means you have to use the compass, and constantly get your bearings, since some missions will result in your death if you merely choose to run towards the checkpoint, you have to route out weak points of entry.

I mean just yesterday, on 'After Montingnac', after running from forest to forest, eventually finding the one north of Morton, way off in the distance. Run right across the open ground to a rise in the center, where i hear gunshots, and M16 rifle fire, which meant yanks are nearby. I suprise a squad of ruskies from behind, and gun them down quickly, the guy who was returning fire can be seen scutling off into the forest.

Just before i make a break for the forest, just to my left, i see an officer retreating over a hill, and i fail to hit him, only second later, I hear a BMP off in the distance which must have been called in for support. I leg into to the woods, and take cover in a bush. The BMP stops outside, moves it turret to scan the trees, and starts deploying the troops in the back to the field, who get into a large line formation, and start moving slowly into the forest, i wasn't waiting around, so i leg it off in the other direction.

That has never happened on Cadet difficulty.

Wooo! Bump!

Installed this today and played for a few hours. It's not my first time though, I played OF a few years ago.

So today I got to the famous After Montignac mission but the previous mission ended a bit strange. I don't remember how it was the last time I played, but today when I was waiting for the Blackhawk and the Hind appeared my squad hit the ground and started crawling towards the forest. The Blackhawk either escaped or got shot down (not sure) and the Hind was circling above our heads. After a few minutes we get to the forest and I sped up the time x4 cause If we were about to crawl all the way to our destination (which was far away) that would take a while, even with time going 4 times as fast. A while later it says the mission is completed and that I got lost in the forest (despite being right next to my squad). Is that the way it's supposed to be?

BTW anyone else using that ability to speed up time? I wasn't aware of it last time I played the game, but now it's really useful if you don't feel like just walking for a few minutes, cause you died last time and already used your save. In one of the missions some script didn't get triggered and my squad walked on foot to a town that was probably supposed to be reached by a vehicle. It took a while even with speeding up time (without it would probably have been like 20 minutes of walking) and then the squad leader stopped in one place and nothing happened. I needed another attempt to complete the mission properly and this time was able to use a truck :p

I really love OFP, have it installed with a shitload of mods, shame ArmA turned out like it did.. I hope ArmA2 is pulled off better.

I've been pondering shelling out some money to get VBS1+addons for it.

For those of you non-military freaks(Yes, I'm a military freak, stfu pacifist pigs, shove that white dove up your buttocks kthx), VBS is Virtual BattleSpace.

It's a military sim that was developed on the OFP1(and later Armed Assault) engine, for use by military companies/armies etc.

Amongst other, the US Army makes use of it to train some of their troops.

The level where your all alone, and you've got to get to the rendezvous point (which turns out to be an ambush itself) sucked.. I spent SO much time going around everything, I even went to a small village at the shores of the west side of the isle (you start near the middle of the island), stole a car, started driving and got shot with a tank, so then I went east next time I loaded the level, that's when I went into an enemy occupied town.. Turns out the entire time I had to just run through the center OPEN field.. No one even sees you, not even the frickin BMP.. god dammit I hate that mission.

Best mission is the chopper missions. I love being a pilot, (I don't mean to brag..), I'm so good at chopper flying. I'll kill all of you vs. me in a chopper. That's right.

This game is still played online, lots of servers, the coop ones are the best. If you're gonna get it, get the GOTY edition. Much less hassle, much easier to get working, and it includes the addon everyone is playing with online: Resistance.

Yeh thats supposed to happen, it can end two ways, if your assault on Morton is successful, you begin running around for a bit, and then the HQ radios in the say that all troops are to be evacuated from Everon (most likely one mother****ing huge Russian force is moving in), and then the next mission you are in a convoy, have to stop because of a disturbance, your truck is destoryed, hind is called in, is shot down, you crawl around, and bang, your squad is dead and you are all alone lol.

The other is if you failed on the assualt, cant quite remember what happens though, I think you actually have a squad with you that time. Need to play it again lol.

And there's a speed up time? D:

Grabbed this from the bargain bin awhile ago but never gave it a very thorough look. My first impression was basically "what the christ is happening?" and then about half an hour of running around aimlessly.

A convoy? LOL. I was in Montignac when we got the order to move up. So my squad leader was going to the next town on foot and I heard an incoming friendly truck. Suddenly, without my current SL dying, the truck driver became the squad leader but I couldn't enter the truck (it was driving in zigzags kinda and didn't really want to wait for me, and when I managed to get near the back, I didn't have an option to enter). So the truck merrily rolled towards the town and I had to walk. When the fighting for that town started and the truck got destroyed, I was still like 500m away from it, heh.

Yes, you can speed up time with the '=' key and then slow it down with '-'. There are three speeds: x1, x2, x4. I dunno, maybe that's a Platinum version exclusive or something o_O.

Is this Montignac in the original game?

****, I should've asked for the Gold edition of OFP for Christmas! Then I could play online and use all of the mods that are out.

You have to capture Montignac in the 6th mission.

Oh, I'll definitely have to check it out.
I've got the original game but there amount of patches it requires is insane.

Keep your eye's on OFP2 - LINK although those screens might be pre rendered, I have heard that they have a great team working on it and are doing a good job.

It's not made by the same people. OFP2 is like Ubisoft making HL3, i.e. it would suck.

Bohemia interactive followed up operation flashpoint with a new game and game engine... that game was called armed assault and in comparison to op flash it sucked the parrots testicles.

However everything Ive read about the sequel to op flash 2 seems to suggest that it has the potential to be as much of a classic as the first game... graphically the game will should be top notch as the pre rendered trailer was produced using player, vehicle and scenery models from the game itself. As for the game play itself the developers have said the game will attempt levels of realism far beyond the original games scope.

I have hopes for this game! :)

Buy the 2 expansion packs as they update the game to pretty much the latest version and any further patches shouldn't need more than 20mb or so. :)

Op Flash 2 does look the shit, hope its as epic as the first.

I'll try and find them for sure, too bad Steam doesn't carry the OpF games. :(

you can if you want completely ignore the red hammer pack as most of the content from that pack is available online. However the resistance upgrade is the one essential purchase as it not only upgrades the graphics engine but also icludes a hefty 2nd campaign.

I'm currently re-installing the game to see how it runs on my dual core rig... im gonna see if i can stick the draw distance up to maximum on my 3GHz core 2 duo :p

Will post pics on maximum game settings 1920x1200 :p

opflash was excellent, was fun to make crazy missions with a ton of tanks and helos....

This is a game I'd buy on Steam when it's released. I can't be bothered looking for it in some bargain bins.

Yeah, same here.

I hate buying from Amazon and eBay because you never know if the copy you're getting will be scratched to hell or not.

I remember I was playing this once and I tossed a grenade into a room to clear it out. I waited a few moments, then saved the game. As soon as it was saved I got a mission failed screen. I apparently killed someone you have to escort with the grenade and it takes several seconds for the mission failed to kick in. It was quite embarasing.

Edit: That wasn't Operation Flashpoint! That was Hidden & Dangerous. Oops :p

I'd love to get into this game but I never gave it a proper chance. The first mission involved my squad getting torn to shreds by a BMP which we could do **** all about, and I HATED the squad commands voice which was constantly shouting dull, robotic orders into my ear every single second.

Also, I hate the M16 as a weapon. Dire as. Mission editor was well cool, though. Once I get Boot Camp back on my Mac I'll re-install it.

Haha those radio commands were hilarious, Ill never forget the first mission you work with the resistance.

1 IS DOWN.
THIS IS 2 TAKING COMMAND, I SAY AGAIN, 2 TAKING COMMAND
OH NO, 2 IS DOWN
THIS IS 3 TAKING COMM
OH NO 3 IS DOWN
OH NO 5 IS DOWN
OH NO 6 IS DOWN
THIS IS 4 TAKING COMMAND, I SAY AGAIN, 4 TAKING COMAND
(ARMSTRONG) 4 IS DOWN

That happened with about 20 seconds. But it wasn't as funny as one of the earlier missions where you are meant to have the afternoon off by the Lt gets into trouble, and you have to go off in a BMP to save him. Normally all soldiers get out of the BMP, the BMP drives off and is destroyed, however in this particular play through, the yanks decided they wouldn't disembark, and were destroyed along with the BMP, leaving me and one other on our own.

One of the greatest games ever imho, way ahead of its time. Great feeling, great realism, the mission editing was easy as pie, yet you could do almost any kind of battle scenario you could imagine.

Not only was it way ahead of its time, but nothing since has ever really did what it did.
I can remember so many 'cinematic' moments even though the combat was largely unscripted, because there was quite a lot of freedom in how you went about a mission.

Aye its the only game that threw out scripted events and cinematics, and created the greatest war simulator of all time. Op Flash 2 better do that same, been waiting long enough for it.

Shift, ArmA2(The true OFP sequel by Bohemia interactive) will feature several different campaigns, amongst them it will have one story-scripted campaign ala OFP, and one FULLY free dynamic campaign, basically, pick your role, play.:)

Also, OFP missions had scripted events, quite a bit of them, just not as obvious as in other games due to the open-ended nature of the game, but still, if you open up the missions in an editor, you'll see that they are heavily based on scripts telling enemy to spawn, enemy to take this action, this radio message to play, these sound-effects to play, etc.

I'm hoping Arma2 will fix the broken travesty that was the first game :p
