"Operative system could not be booted."

That's what I get (in swedish) after windows xp pro has put the installation files into the harddrive and rebooted.

I built this new comp just yesterday.

Please help me!

have u still got the cd in the drive when u reboot?

failing that... use linux!

Yes I do, I've tried without too... same crap!

And no, I want windows xp :p

And no, I want windows xp

i use xp home. i tried to load linux, but that wouldn't work :S i have no idea. microsoft has a customer support number doesn't it?

Have you been using windows beforehand? If not and its a new install but the system wont boot from the drive, is the drive a SATA?

Is it a warez version of winxp? That also could be the reason.

he said its a brand new pc so im guessing its a legit copy

He built his computer though. Which means, if he did not want to pay for WinXP then he could have warez'd it. It probably is legit, but you never know.

No its not a warez copy.
I got everything working now btw.

I'm sitting on the new comp now and it runs good.
Except I cant run my 9600pro in x8 'cause of "VPU Recover" errors..

But to fix the operative system thingie I changed something in boot.. changed the harddrive to "large" instead of "auto" and it started perfectly.

Can't see why changing the HD from auto to large would make that much difference.
Since the BIOS checks your hardware, when auto is enabled, to find the best setting, That setting as specified in the factory.

I thought the problem would have been, that the CD rom was First boot device, And that if the XP disc was'nt in the drive when you booted, the PC would still be trying to boot from the CD, When it would normally look towards the HD for an operating system when it found no disc present in the cd rom, This sually only happens though when the CD rom is specified as "first boot only" and "boot other devices" is disabled.

I suggest you search through google for an answer to the ATI 9600 problem.

Yeah I know it's weird.
The problem wasen't the boot order, I tried all.

About the ATI 9600 pro problem, I read on ATI's homepage that it cant run x8 on some systems. I hope they'll resolve this problem in their next catalyst.
