Does anyone know the BEST settings for a 9800 Pro. I do not want to get a program to OC it. I just would rather change the settings than use a program. So if anyone knows what the BEST settings or know of a site that tells you the BEST settings for a 9800 Pro, I would appreciate it very much if you were to tell me. :cheese: Thanks.

What do you mean "settings?" The default settings when you install your driver are the "best," in terms of performance and quality. There's not alot you can change, past FSAA and AF.

As in under Display Properties, settings, advanced, then changing the properties under there. I just want to know what properties would get the Best quality and performance out of it. I am not going to keep it balanced as I want the BEST of both worlds.

It depends on the game. What game/s are you playing?
Ideally speaking, 2xFSAA and 8xAF would probably look the best without murdering your performance in newer games.

I am trying to play Doom 3 on Ultimate Performance.. I know you can raise it to that level, but I have not been able to successfully do so without lag spikes or the game freezing.

Well, the best graphics you could possibly get would be raising your AA and AF to the max, as well as all other options...duh...but, to have good performance and good graphics, it's up to you. Certain games will kill your FPS if you have everything on max settings. Other's won't.

Well, that means you should lower some settings, and maybe some settings in Doom 3.

you should be able to play D3 at 1024x768 on high no problems, maybe some aa and af.

I am but I heard I am supposed to be able to play Doom 3 on Ultimate at 1024x768 with a 9800 PRO, and I am not able to do so. I get into the game and once it comes to any movie partition it lags and pretty much freezes.

No an X800XT or 6800Gt/Ultra could do Ultra on 1024x768, not a 9800 pro. WIth only 128mb memory, even high is pushing it extremely hard.

I heard 9800 Pro can at least run Doom 3 on Ulitmate at 800x600 even the lowest resolution is supposed to work for a 9800 PRO. What if I were to OC the card? Then would it be able to handle Ultimate at 1024x768?

You could OC it and prolly gain 5 fps or so. It depends what your idea of playable is. On Doom3, normally low FPS in most games it usually playable. 20 FPS would suck in FarCry or even CS but in D3 it looks pretty smooth.

Does that mean I would be able to run it on Ultimate at 800x600 with it OCed?

I wouldn't OC any card for Doom 3, it pushes all the cards VERY hard, much harder than Far Cry. Just on high the 9800 pro gets hot, some people get artifacts. I wouldn't OC.

^^^^^

He's right, if your game is crashing without any OCing, don't bother, you'll just destroy your card. What are your full system specs.?

The Low, Medium, High and Ultimate settings in Doom3 only decrease compression of the textures. They are not settings that control graphical effects.
Setting it to Medium or High is more than reasonable and I would much rather increase AF or AA than slide it up to High or Ultimate.

I heard that the difference between high and ultimate is pretty much indistinquishale.
