Ordering from Steam

I'm just getting Steam D/L'ed now. Will I be able to order the game and receive it before the 30th?? Also can you purchase it at the fulll price and burn it to CD's/DVD or will it have to be on the monthly payment option.

you will be able to encryped download it prior to 30. september if you pay for it. You have to play via steam, what means you have to be online to play ist. You will only download the section you are playing, not the whole game and you will not be able to burn the game on cds. if you want it on cds, got to a story in october and buy it.

Nobody knows when the game is released for pre-downloading. You can burn a CD with the cache file so you don't have to download that again. (if you choose the one payment thing)

If you pre-order off Steam, you can buy the game one off, it should begin pre-loading HL2 encrypted into the cache file on your hard-disc. On September 30th this encrypted data will be decrypted and if you haven't got the full game onto your hard-disc by then it will continue streaming it into the cache.

Once you have the minimum amount of data required to play, you can start the game, even if the download isn't yet finished.

The cache file can be burned to CD/DVD at any time, no matter where it came from (downloaded with one off payment, downloaded with subcription, or from HL2 CD/DVD).

OK thx that sounds like a option then....

Say I buy the full game from Steam and burn the cache could I then run it from another PC. Of course as long as Steam was installed and I was logged in.

Also can I DL it as many times as I need (PC Rebuilds etc)

Yup, both of those are possible.

Umm, does that mean that if you buy the game from a store, on the cd, you only get the cache file to be used inside Steam, or does it mean that if you buy in store, you can play without Steam?

Buy it in the store = no steam necessary. Unless you go online and enable its steam functionality. I think. :dozey:

Right now yes, but VALVe are working on an update that will make the Singleplayer part of the games available even though Steam isnt running.
