Anyone here organ donors? Any specific reasons why you become one? I've only just recently signed up to be one myself, no idea why I put it off for so long. I ultimately felt it was quite fulfilling that by salvaging my guts, it may ultimately help to save someone's life upon my demise.

I chose to become an ODer last month. It was a tough decision, and it's hard to keep clean, but in the end, I hope it's worth it.

I've never knew anyone who ODed, but I can assume it's a good thing.

Yep! It's pretty selfish to not be, tbh.

No, just because I don't want to be.

shouldn't we be growing this shit in a lab by now anyway? come on, 2010 people....make it commercially viable

No, because I know by the time I become an old man I'll be really selfish and regret my decision.
I'll probably force my offspring to have a really ornate ceremony for no reason. Hopefully a sending off from one of the galactic frigates.

I'm not sure if it's the same where you are but in the UK you can ask them to withdraw you from the register whenever you want.

I would also like to donate my corpse to medical science/study; even if that means it's just getting butchered up by medical students.

Thing is I'll probably forget by then.

TBH, I don't understand the logic of people who don't.

You can be useful, even in death.

I highly suggest everyone be an OD.

No, just because I don't want to be.

When you're 58 and you need an organ transplant to live, you'll know what it's like to get in the waiting list for someone to donate one.

You got 2 years to live (while getting sicker), and there's 100 people that signed up for the organ in front of you in line.

Deathclock.

I signed the thing on the back of the drivers licence when I got me new one. Don't see any reason why not.

When I am 58 it will be 2050, we will be growing that shit by then. I mean cmon 40 more years?

I want to be but haven't got round to it yet. I don't drink/smoke and have perfect eyesight, so I think I'd be pretty useful.

It should be the other way around, everyone should be automatically on the organ donor list, unless specified otherwise.

It's little things like that that build up and over time take away freedoms in countries.. But that's a discussion for another thread!

I've been an organ donor ever since I got my driver's license. I don't like the idea of my organs being harvested but I'll be dead so I'm not gonna give a damn, and if someone or even multiple someones can live instead of dying because they get my organs (which aren't doing shit for yours truly anymore) then hell yeah I'm down for it.

They probably won't want my lungs or liver though...

There was a little controversy this year in the UK at a white paper that suggested just that.

Yeah, could be opt-out, but it's fine the way it is also. Check the box to be an organ donor when you get your driver's license.

I don't think you could argue that it was overlooked and a mistake that way. It requires your input otherwise no.

Yes I am, and I have yet to see a good argument against it.

All inmates should be on the list. also anyone being punished by death should have them removed while he/she is alive for complete transformation from one body to another. it would be the ultimate retribution

also, people who are organ donors should get a special off their taxes every year. and I do believe I signed my drivers id card

i don't usually donate things

also i smoke. a lot.

Because they're mine, I have no obligation to give anyone I don't know anything, just like they have no obligation to give me anything. So I don't see why I'm looked at as a bad person because I don't want to give people my organs.

That's like saying a stranger can walk in your house and take all your shit because you died. If you don't give your shit away, you're a dick. 'You aren't using it anymore'

Someone at your local hospital needs a kidney, why not give them one? You don't need it. Same with one lung, and one of your testicles while your at it, you have 2.

I'm an organ receiver. When I die, I get all the dead organ donor's organs stuffed inside of my corpse for when I get buried. Jeez, you guys all thought living people got your organs? Didn't you read the fine print and see the "Organ Reciever:" checkbox?

It's little things like that that build up and over time take away freedoms in countries..

Haha, Dog, you are so funny. "Freedoms of dead people" and what not.

What he said pretty much means the hospital owns your organs once you're born, unless you say otherwise. That's ridiculous! Ludicrous even!

Uh, no it's not, when you die SOMEONE gets all your stuff unless you don't know anybody in which case the government gets it or something. The difference is that someone else still gets it. When you're dead you have no use for your organs, they are just going to decompose.

You don't have an obligation to give them away, but that doesn't mean you aren't a shithead.

I'm an organ donor. When I die, I don't need my organs. Better give it to people who need them.

In my opinion, it is perverse that someone wouldn't want to give their organs away after death. You have absolutely no use for them, you are worm food now. Do your bit and let someone else live their life after your time is over. I hope they bring in the 'opt out' system in the UK which is being toyed with.

I think they should just say people who aren't on the donor list before they got ill go to the back of the queue.

I never knew you were so good at Trolling.

plus you sorta live on which is also another feat no one really recognizes anymore. people can try to make their skin look younger, or they have sex with an 18 yr when they're in their 60s but if do organ donations you'll live a little bit longer.

Yea someone gets your stuff, I never said someone didn't, but usually a STRANGER doesn't get your stuff, which IS what I said.

Like I said, I'm not going to sit here and feel bad because I didn't sign over my organs to a stranger when I die.
I never knew you were so good at Trolling.

Thanks I try.

No I don't try, I'm just that good

Ok I didn't even know I was trolling, but it works

What the hell is wrong with saving a strangers life with no real loss on your part?
