Press Release - May 21, 2007
ORION is a brand new game being built around VALVe?s Source engine. It originally surfaced over seven years ago, originally being developed under the IP name of ?Incoming?. Development originally started on the Half-Life 1 engine and later continued development on the much improved and enhanced Source SDK.
'Orion' is a multiplayer-only game currently. It's focus is heavily on the team play aspect and using strategic elements to achieve and overcome obstacles and defeat your opponents in the interactive game mode, known as ViTAL.
While 'ViTAL' is the premiere game-mode being showcased in the first release, you will see a few other game-modes on some of the maps as well. This is due to our dynamic game-mode setup allowing mappers to experiment and have a vast amount of control over how a game is going to be played. Another mode you should expect to see due to this system is Attack & Defend.
Using a class-based team play focus with five (5) classes on each team. The two forces that are battling for survival and life itself are the Carrier Marine Force and the Altair Warriors. The classes on both sets of teams include:
GROUP 01 ? ASSAULT
This is your straight forward warrior class. Skilled all-around.
GROUP 02 ? SUPPORT
Heavy weapons support / slower movement / expanded explosive capacity.
GROUP 03 ? SNIPER
Increased accuracy and movement speed / prone to heavier amount of damage.
GROUP 04 ? TECH
Increased disabling and restoring time / access to OSOR KIT v2 / access to Sonic Grenades (EMP)
GROUP 05 ? DEMO
Access to the Spear of Orion device as well as the Flamethrower weapon.
Also has access to the OSOR Kit Version 2.0.
There are class specific features, such as the DEMO class having access to the Flame Thrower weapon and the Sniper having access to the long-range Sniper Rifles.
Each class is equipped with an OSOR Kit. This computer-based unit is essential to the outcome of each game. You use this for everything, whether its to gain access to the enemies outpost which houses the computer terminal keeping the shield network online, as well as disabling the console to take their shield network offline to gain access to their main base. It is also used to even heal your fellow comrades.
Also specific to classes are items and units. For example, the DEMO class comes equipped with a highly explosive remote charge mine and the SUPPORT class comes standard with a PDT (Personal Defense Turret Kit) which can be placed in remotely any area and used.
Re-designing many of the key game-design aspects, including all of the weaponry in the game, both Human and Alien, we are creating brand new designs to better fit our universe and props to go along for the ride as well. Scroll down below for a glimpse at just some of the new weaponry that will be showcased in the first public release.
