Orlando police Chaplain Andrew Wade doesn't carry a gun or lock up criminals.

But he has a weapon he says can fight crime on the most troubled streets, and heal communities where even a streetwise policeman could be gunned down at an automated-teller machine.

"We can pray," Wade said. "We can call on people of faith to do the same. We believe that is a mighty power."

...

Prayer volunteer Maureen Bravo, the founder of Intercessory Prayer Network of Central Florida, said she believes prayer can make a difference.

"Through prayer, you become a co-laborer with God," Bravo said.

And for that, you also have to go out and do the hard work, she said."It's easy to sit on your duff and watch TV and do nothing while Rome is burning, but why not go out and try to save it?"

Why didn't anyone think of this before? Clearly the only true God would have ended all crime if we just asked him to do so.

BTW God, I'm still waiting for my winning lottery ticket. I wish you would hurry up.

Lots of departments have chaplains. So? What do you expect a chaplain to say? "We're going to crush these pieces of shit?" Get a life.

Why don't you go back to breathlessly predicting the indictment of Dick Cheney. Then let me know how that works out for you.

Wow. I see I struck a nerve. :LOL:

But hey, look on the bright side. When this prayer doesn't work people like you can blame liberals like me for doubting God so he can remain blameless.

I've said numerous times before, at best I'm agnostic. So....maybe?

I could care less about the God thing. I just think it's incredibly asinine to point out something like this when a majority of police departments have chaplains. That, and I haven't seen where you retracted any of your, "OMG, Dick Cheney is going to be indicted tomorrow....,er, in three days.....errr, next week......errr......in two months, according to my source.....errrr.....{crickets chirping]"

What the hell are you talking about? when did I ever make such statements?

Hah, that's more like it - Go, Allah! :LOL:

Or maybe the Christian God, because as he says: "And I shall strike down with furious anger those who oppose me, and you will know that my name is Jehovah, when I lay my wrath upon thee!" :p

Is today the day everyone got high and left me out of the circle? First Hapless pops in from out of nowhere with his bullshit about me saying Cheney was going to go to prison and now you post this? In addition there are like 3 threads started today in off topic board talking about food.

You guys are holding out on me, I don't appreciate it.

What's wrong with trusting the will of Allah now? :D

It would be pretty nice if the Christian God acts - He has Action Jesus!

Sorry, I misspoke. It was actually Rove, now that I review your posts. Funny how no one was actually charged with anything related to the actual "leak" in that whole affair, because there was no underlying crime. That and the leaker was Richard Armitage, who by all accounts is not GWB, Cheney or Rove.

Chaplains are there for last rites? counseling? ..but not actually for praying in order to solve crimes right? is god on the payroll?

I though you Bush apologists didn't exist anymore, but I guess sooner or later I'd run in to one of you from that 28% that still approve of his job performace. As much as I would like to get back to talking about the leak I don't think this is the best thread to do it in. So by all means, please do start a new thread. I'd love to get in to a discussion how Bush pardoned the person that helped them cover all of this up.

And care to post exactly where I said rove was going to be indicted? Be sure you post the whole thread because in that thread every time I mentioned a Rove indictement I used an "if" except in one occasion where I must have mispoke and said "when" (but I guess liberals aren't allowed to mispeak). So nice try. Better luck next time.

Yes, they are generally used for counseling, sometimes they can help calm tense situations, etc. But pointing out they believe in prayer is like pointing out that water is wet. What's the point?

that's not the point of the article:

Starting Wednesday evening and continuing for 40 nights, Wade and his fellow chaplains will join volunteers standing in Parramore Heritage Park, in the heart of one of Orlando's most troubled areas, and pray for the end of crime.

There is a fight in the supernatural that is affecting us here in the physical world," he said.

"This is a clarion call to people of faith. Let us join together. Let's ask God to change the hearts and minds of men."

they're directly asking for the lord's help in "healing" troubled communities ..this isnt the same thing as counseling or talking someone off a bridge

naw he's probably busy beating suspects with a phonebook and a broom handle

I kid, I kid, Hapless dont taze me

I still don't see what the problem is. If they are like our chaplains, they are volunteers, i.e. unpaid. If they want to pray for less crime, more power to them.

I want to see some ****ing mages in town, working a 5th level spell to cause peace and compassion in a wide radius now.

I didnt know they were unpaid. I was under the impression that they were in the place of other cops....the ones who fight crime with pepper spray, not a book

Didn't the Temple Foundation or something do a double blind experiment on the effectivness of prayer? Which, as the results were, that prayer had no effect, or sometimes actually a negative effect?

I'd like to point out the absolute stupidity of this, and reccommand that the chaplain get out there with some handcuffs and a gun, instead of praying.

*uses taser*

do you really want a religion associated with a publically funded office? I agree this isnt something to be alarmed about ..more of a stifled giggle and the pointing of fingers followed by the rolling of eyes

"Lord we pray that Guido the Killer Pimp will reject his evil ways and dedicate his life to good works, in the name of the Lord baby Jesus amen ...do I hear an amen?! I SAIIIID do I HEAR an AMEN? PRAISE BE JESUS!! PRAISE BE THE LOOORD" <starts clapping and singing>

Bow down and worship Him;
worship Him,
oh, worship Him.

Bow down and worship Him;
enter in,
oh enter in.

Consuming fire,
sweet perfume,
His awesome presence
fills this room;
this is holy ground,
so come and bow down.

PRAISE BE THE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORD!!!

btw I'm not your bro, bro

Don't you see this is a clear example of christians invading my country and making me go into exile? :frown:

Seriously though I posted this to show the stupidity in our country. Having a police force that can be responsible for my life depend on prayer to solve all crime leaves a really bad taste in my mouth? If they want to have their prayer circle by all means let them, it doesn't mean I can't point out the stupidity of it.
