Hrm.
I played the Doom 3 alpha months ago, and while I was getting extremely low FPS (duh), the game still was incredible, even back then. I don't see the point in comparing Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 - they will both rock, each in it's own merits.

Of course Deus Ex 2 ownz both of them though

yes, both these games should be un-comparable. they both look amazing. duesx 2 wont be better than either of these games...im sure it will rock but these 2 will surpass it in my opinion.

I see no reason te be hostile about 2 or 3 games that will be great in their own terms...we're all gamers...and we'll be happy gamers in 2004 i think..being almost 30 and occasional gamer i'm excited about the progress we'll see next year..i still remember the shooting hall days

...about the shadows..i think it was J. Carmack that pushed graphics ship makers to implement much higher color precision onto their cards:64 bit and even 128bit he was talking about 2 years ago ..i think if the game's optimized ,the shadows will be better then just edged and black..
You also cannot judge a game with dynamic lights by screenshots..a game ALWAYS looks better in motion ..in the official doom3 trailer the game looks more then enough GOOD to me..

I see a lot of resemblance here in older unreal Engine vs Q3 engine games..i think it were great engines with some differences..that's all..

Im bias towards HL2 (Thats why im posting here and not the Doom ]I[ Forums) but i think HL2 will have a few features over Doom and Deus Ex. But they will all be amazing games and i plan on getting them all.

Me too i'll buy them both for sure,and i don't buy or play a lot of games...

One thing we certainly cannot forget..that is ,other games that will be made on hl2 and Doom3 engines...!!!!
What will Quake4 be like(doom3 engine)? Team fortress2?

What will other companies do with that engine..if carmack says it's powerfull you mostly can rely on his word..as for HL2 we 've already seen it's a powerfull engine and options for other excellent games and mods are there for sure

The most interesting thing is that games hopefully will evolve in very interactive and emerging experience's thx to new technology...
