I can see why vivendi decided to drop all future support for the game ..even though it hasnt been all that long since it's release

"To date, T:V has sold approximately 47,000 copies in North America. No figures for outside of North America were provided. As a comparision, the original Tribes sold 210,000 and Tribes 2 sold 400,000. In its first week, Tribes: Vengeance sold 7800 copies. "

interview

"Q. What were the factors in cancelling the patch?

A. It essentially comes down to poor sales. T:V debuted weakly and did not pick up any appreciable strength in sales

Q. Is there any chance VUG might reconsider its decision at some point?

A. No"

I remember the few T:V fans there were making fun of HL2 and saying how much better T:V was gonna be.

yes I too remember ..there was one of them here who kept on going on and on how it was going to be bigger than bf1942 or UT2004

Boo! I thought Tribes Vengeances singleplayer was great, with a few duff levels. Oh well.

I didn't like Tribes Vengeance. It felt like I was playing UT 2004 with a jetpack mod. Now Tribes 2, that was a sweet game. Many Tribes 1 fans didn't appreciate it but it was awesome.

Tribes 2 was the best out of the three in my opinion. Ahh, the many hours I spent on that game.

The problem with T:V in my opinion was that it was too much like UT2004 so everyone who bought UT2004 didn't see much point in forking out for T:V as well. T:V was faster paced and more action intense that its predecessors. I think it would've been better if they'd slowed it down a bit.

it's a shame that it's impossible to take the gameplay from the previous game in the series and then just add some pretty graphics, I mean is that so hard to do? I think tribes 2 had it down perfectly, hell I still play it when I need my speed fix.

(torque engine ftw!)

Reason why it failed?

It's fan base is small....Tribes ain't for your average FPS kiddie. This games requires actual skill.

Which turns people off because no one wants to take the time and learn. Most people just want to install the fps and be able to jump right into the game right then.Hell I was turned off from tribes 1 at first, because of the skill factor.I then decided to take the time and learn techniques...(skiing, mid-air kills, etc..)

Thats what destroying the tribes series.

It's time of release probably did more to kill it than anything.

Last year wasn't exactly the best year for first person shooters not named Half-life 2, Doom 3, UT2k4 or Far Cry. It's a hell of a lineup to compete with.

I loved Tribes 2... most original fans didn't but I did. Problem is, no one else did, so there were about 2 people online at any given time.

T:V wasn't too good, according to everyone I know who had it, so I never bought it.

No, just no.

Going back to other games is annoying because you always start right clicking for jetpack :D

I don't know what planet you lived on, but on mine Tribes II had a massive following after release. Hell, I'd see the Houston server regularly setting up games with more than a hundred people.

While the skill factor makes Tribes what it is, I wouldn't say thats what doomed T:V. I think they really need something revolutionary to draw new players in this time, but they juse refined the series instead. I'd expect the next Tribes game to take some massive liberties.

I say they should get the source engine or U3 engine and build the next Tribes game off of it.

It would probally be best in the long run.

T:V sucks because defense doesn't exist, you cant defend agaisnt a guy going 10,000 MPH.

1) Let's face it. The Tribes fanbase wasn't THAT huge to begin with. Its core players were generally hardcore. The learning curve was fairly steep. Attracting new players to that kind of thing is somewhat difficult.

2) The developers made T:V a Fisher-Price toy. Putting "Tribes" in your title is going to turn away the same people that turned away from the previous game. Except THIS time you've alienated the majority of your fanbase by simplifying EVERYTHING. What? You think these people are gonna stop suckling the complexities Tribes 2 when you give them "Tribes for Dummies"? There's no way in Hell this was going to work out.

Personally, I'm somewhat relieved that the game bombed so badly. If it became a massive success because of its gearing towards marketability (ala Warrior Within), then I think we'd be saying goodbye to the Tribes series and hello to UT2K4 with jetpacks. Hopefully people will understand that people playing Tribes want more, not less. You dick with them and you pay the price.

Yep, Tribes 2 had a large following, I remember it.

Sorta dissapointing really. I was actually looking foward to Tribes: Vengeance more than Half-Life 2. And it sucked. I wish they'd just remake Tribes 1 in the Source engine with updated Tribes 2 models. That would kick much ass.

T:V bored the crap out of me. Silent Hunter 3 is more action packed. :)

I actually almost ended up buying T:V last night. Went with Max Payne 2 for $10 instead. Didn't take the bait though cause I didn't really know what to expect from it. What other FPS's could you compare T:V to? And what's the single player like? I tried reading some reviews and some average customer's opinions but it seemed to range from extremely underrated all the way to extremely overrated. I kind of figured the reviews have all been pure hype.
