hey guys. total noob as to overclocking, so bear with me.

right now i have a 2.53 (133x19) pentium 4

what speed should i clock to? i have no cooling system except a side intake fan and a top exhaust fan (aside from the heatsinks and fans that come with the individual parts)

speaking of cooling, which is the best? i thought water cooling might be good, but then i heard it sucked. i heard a couple good things about the Volcano series... anectdotes would be appreciated.

what is the temperature threshold for the cpu listed above (can i have 3 temps plz? a "this is a good temp" temp, a "its getting kinda warm, but is still not gonna damage your computer" temp and a "holy shit turn it off right now" temp)?

and uh... how important is the mobo fan? mine goes our from time to time.

right now my case temp reads 93.6 (its kinda hot in my room)

help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance for no flames.

Its not up to us for what to OC it to. Every chip is different, none are the same. Just OC in small increments, every 100mhz run prime95 for a while. When it fails, things are unstable, etc. up the vcore. Run prime95 on the new vcore and monitor temps, see if its stable. If it is keep OCing.

is prime95 a program? link plz. wats a good temp for cpus to run without damage? wats best cooling system? wats vcore?

VCore is the amount of power passed through the CPU, that's pretty much all you need to know. The higher the VCore, the hotter your CPU will get, but also, the higher you will be able to overclock it. For cooling, get a Zalman 7000Cu, it's a very great HSF. Just make sure the temp doesn't go over 55 degrees Celcius. You really don't want your motherboard fan to go out, depending on what your motherboard is currently, I'd recommend getting a good overclocking one.

since when does water cooling suck? water cooling is the best method of cooling down a hot cpu... and its very quiet too.. the noise from my pc is killing me slowly

errr the best cooling solution is putting your PC in a freezer

Ankalar, almost all OCs on the 2.4c run above 55C at load. Just keep it under 65C, and you should be good. My abit reads temps 10C then they really are though, so when my temp shows 64 its probly like 55.

EDIT: And for prime95, just search Prime95 on google :p Im not sure if i should trust it though, cause it fails on CPUs at stock speeds and everything sometimes. I just dont know of a better program. I tried SiSoft CPU burn-in and it completed successfully at every speed, including 3.3 but it obviously wasnt stable that high.

The new Abit mobos read the temps 10C higher than they really are.

I know lol, i said that. But still on other mobos a good amount of people are above 60C load.
