How in the world does this dumb ass get that close to the presidency?

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin officially pardoned a turkey for Thanksgiving at a farm in Wasilla, Alaska on Thursday, then conducted a television interview as another bird was clearly seen being slaughtered in the background.

As the former Republican vice presidential nominee spoke with a KTUU-TV reporter about returning to work in Alaska, just a few feet behind her a Triple D Farms worker is seen feeding a turkey into a grinder, periodically turning around to watch the on-going interview.

....

Palin, who called the pardoning experience "neat" was reportedly told by the station videographer what was going on behind her, but allowed the interview to continue.

They have video at the link, if you feel like watching a turkey get slaughtered.

She mouthshits in this worse than she did in the Couric interview. And lol@situation but tbh... it's got to that point that we arrived at long ago with Bush, where it gets less funny because the stupidity is so expected.

Also: another Fox News piece making Palin look less than intellectual...? Hmm...

I cant watch the video can someone explain what it contains ..I'm not understanding why this is newsworthy. as much as I dislike palin, the interview is being held at a turkey slaughtering farm. seeing a turkey getting slaughtered isnt out of the ordinary

A guy is in the background holding a turkey upside down in a conical metal thing that I assume is the grinder. For most of the interview nothing happens and I thought it was dead, but you see it struggle a little towards the end - actually that might just be the guy shaking it, I'm not sure. You don't actually see any grinding happen, or any gore apart from the residual muck under the grinder.

Palin is in the foreground with her usual soundbyte blitz:
"good americans, just, good, land of opportunity, and this, part of this team we're building, governing, that's what it's all about, this team, and so with the price of oil falling that's... that comes into play now, that, reining in the growth of government, and that's what it's all about, just delighted to be here, really NEAT."

Not verbatim but it'll pass for edited highlights. The 'pardoning' isn't part of the video.

Tbh it's not newsworthy IMO other than as a little bit of let's-lol-at-stupid, but again I think it's a symptom of Fox taking a less than sympathetic posture with Palin, possibly because they think she's bad for the GOP and don't want her to run in 2012.

I don't know, I'd have to disagree with you on that one. She was told that a turkey was being slaughtered right behind her and did the TV interview anyway. You can watch the video when you get a chance but the scene is pretty damn brutal.

kinda got a glimpse of it ..the turkey is put into a funnel like device and it twitches momentarily ..yes it's ironic she had just pardoned a turkey but is that all the video shows?

edit: thanks laivasse it makes sense now

I'D LIKE TO PUT A LOT OF U OMNIVORES ON THE CUTTING BOARD. INFIDELS.
Palin should be on it too.

The device doesn't look like a grinder at all. What it looks like is something to contain the turkey's body as the blood drains from it's slit throat or something.

That could be my only guess.

Murdoch clearly intends to bury her Political Career.

In her defense, it is after all a slaughterhouse, and that is what they do.
It is only strange if you have never killed your own food, and she has.

Note the surprised look on her face as she learned the Ben Franklin anecdote.
I bet a $1 that the pardoned turkey was actually slaughtered after all...

I just pulled a huge bugger out of my nose,so who gives a ****?

All signs point to Yes Indeed... A few weeks ago Fox wouldn't have touched this story. or it would have an O'Reilly filter explaining how it makes her such a homely down-to-earth person.

As much as I hate Palin, I don't get the big deal. If you are at a slaughter house and one lucky Turkey gets pardoned by you, what's that supposed to mean? They're not going to slaughter the rest of the dead birds? Of course they are, that's what they do *shrugs*
What was she supposed to do about it anyways?
"Oh hey please don't slaughter that already dead Turkey at your SLAUGHTER HOUSE"

It was dead already, I didn't find it brutal. News report is looking for straws tbh.

Not get interviewed with it happening in the background. Sure, it happens all the time and isn't a big deal. I take a shit all the time and it isn't a big deal either (okay, so some of them are a big deal...), but you don't see me taking a shit in the background to most TV interviews with politicians.

I agree that it isn't particularly newsworthy. But it is dumb, and typical of her usual obliviousness. I mean come on, it makes the interview unbroadcastable for most news shows unless they censor it. It would be dumb enough if it was just 'Turkey Slaughtered in Palin Interview; Governor Bids 'Continue'', but the whole 'pardoning' thing beforehand really adds that Palin touch. I don't think it was dead already btw. You see it struggle... although there's a chance that it's just twitching or something.

I don't know why but this reminds me of the Naked Gun/Hot Shots movies.
