ive got 1gig pc3200 kingston value ram :frown:
i was just wondering, that because its CAS latancy (o what ever that thingy is) is 3, could it be slowing my pc down in games a dropping my fps? talking about games like the far cry demo and other pc intensive games.

my spec is:

p4 2.8c 800 fsb
1gig ram ( pants ram )
9800pro 128
gigabyte 8lk1100

That's likely to be it - CAS3 is slow. 2.5 is reasonable, but 2.0 is the best stuff.

Well, yes... but that's still some pretty fast RAM even with high latency. If you're having FPS problems in system of that class, even with this value RAM, the RAM is probably not the biggest factor causing your problems. Maybe you can describe what's going on a little more thoroughly?

no its nothing really bad, jsut i read on other forums of guys not getting good fps then they bought some new "super fast" ram and suddenly their frames per second doubled, and i jsut wondered whether mine could be slowing me down. come to think of it i dont actually have a big problem with fps, just thought i might just be able to squeeze that extra amount. i think ill hold onto this stuff for a little while longer now, thanks

The tighter your RAM's timings, the better performance you'll get. But it wont be better performance by leaps and bounds, just a little. I'm actually running 1gig of Corsair Value Select RAM 2.5-3-3-8 and my system runs great. Value Select RAM isnt much for overclocking though. ;(

some good advice/observations here...i'd just advise to avoid any CAS more than 2.5 in the future...CAS 3 isn't exactly "ideal". 2.5 is ok and 2 is great....and you're not saving THAT much money by going from 2.5 to 3...so imo, it's not worth it.
