I need an app to resize an NTFS partition.. know any ?

I'm actually trying to format an NTFS drive to a FAT32 drive for TAFE, but i haven't had any luck yet unfortunately.

If you boot from the winxp cd, you can reformat partitions with NTFS, FAT32 and FAT16 I believe.

I think he means without deleting the data, but I don't think there is a program possible unfortunately.

I believe once you install OS, it's non partition-able without corrupting OS. Only thing is, to reinstall OS all over again and then partition disk during installation to NTFS or FAT32.

Good Luck.

I believe there are commercial software out there that allows you to resize partitions without destroying the data in the partition.

Partition Magic does it, but it's not (legally) free.

Yup, I just can't find any.. well, even if it is not possible to resize a partition without doing any damage (I'm 99% sure it IS possible) it doesn't matter on the hd I'm doing it on.

There's a trial version of version 8, so since I won't need it for long at all I think I'll just dl, use it and uninstall it.

Thanks all but if you ever come a cross a good free one, post it. ;) I know there's some Linux based live cd around but I can't remember it's name, gpart or something.

Careful...I acquired partition magic and attempted to resize my partitions with it. It ended up having a critical error at the end and screwed over all of my partitions. Good thing I didn't have anything I needed on there anyways.

Just backup your stuff before you try portioning just in case a donkey shows up at your door steps. ;)

You can use programs like partition magic to resize any partition on your computer, but I'm not sure about changing the whole filesystem, I dont think thats possible.

And make sure you back up stuff if your mucking around with partitions and shit.....

There's a linux tool to do just that (resize and also other stuff), called GParted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/). You just need to defrag the NTFS partition, boot from the livecd, change the size and boot back to windows (there's an obligatory disk check but everything should be ok, anyway you should always backup your stuff).

Small video that shows the whole process: http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/07/20/1654251 (the 3rd video)

Indeed, I've actually found GParted to be more reliable than the newer versions of PartitionMagic.
