Hello there, been a while since I was here the last time.

I am excited about EP2 coming out and all, and forgive me if this information has already been posted/answered on this forum, but is it not possible to buy JUST EP2 without Orange Box?

Something is just wrong with the Steam-browser, it keeps reloading and links dont work etc etc, but as far as I can tell, Only the Orange Box for 44.95, and 2 other offers for 79 and 99 dollars are available.

Orange Box Contains EP1, which I already have, so it feels like Im paying for things I dont want. I don't intend to play Portal or TF2 etc, just EP2.

Im using Firefox for browser, could that be the answer to me not finding it? Seems to be bugged.

Thanks for your time.

ps. Is EP2 up for preloading yet?

Regards

This again?

Episode Two will be available for purchase after OB is released for $29.95. And no, Episode Two is not available for preload yet. Should be up in a couple of days.

"after ob is released" as in, a period of time after the game has been released? I would like to play it on release-day.

From what I have heard, it will be a decent amount of time before EP2 is release by itself.

Otherwise you gotta get the OB.

And it gives you the ability to 'give away' HL2 and Episode 1 to a friend if they set up a steam account and you already own them both.

You need to clue yourself in with the situation. It's been stated more times than I've had hot dinners that Orange box comes with Half-life 2 and Episode 1 for FREE, on separate CD keys which you can give away to friends. The price of the OB is based on TF2, Portal and Episode 2. If you'd like to play it release day, I'm afraid you only have the option available to us all. You will be waiting a long time for separate games...

Sorry, should've been more specific.

If you have a friend who's not as cheap who has OB, you can play it now. If not, get used to waiting.

You can buy EP2 buy itself for $30 US. If you preorder OB you get EP2, Portal, and TF2 for $45 essentially $15 a game. This is also known as Deal of the Century. K thx

... You just don't think you want to play portal and TF2. After you finish ep2 you'll be like "Damn... well, that was fun... do i have any other games to play? ...Shit... i should have got those other 2 games in that deal of the century everyone was talking about."

Think about it, portals is replayable because you get medals and shit, not to mention the achievements that come with all the games, and TF2 has at least 1000 hours of gameplay for you. You can't go wrong getting them too.

HL2 and EP1 are free with The Orange Box.

And Portal is part of the Half-Life storyline, the facility you are in is related to Episode 3.

Oh nice.. didn't know that about Ep3.

Ty for the information, and for some of you, chill the feck out.
I said "im sorry if this has been posted before", still the hostility is just raining down on the poster.

Yeah, it's a good deal. As said, HL2/EP1 are free, and TF2 is essentially the multiplayer component of EP2; Portal being relevant to the ongoing storyline.

It sure is a good deal, but no component part of something that costs money can ever be called 'Free'.

BAD! THAT'S A BAD THREAD STARTER! >< *Whacks with stick*

I believe all of you are incorrect. All the games in the Orange Box will be available for separate purchase come Oct. 10. So you'll be able to play Ep2 on release day. Provided you buy it once it's released at midnight and download it fast enough to play during the day =P.

lol the thread title made me laugh because they way society is today; that could never be said :p

I'm not being bitter or anything just damn curious: how can someone want to play Ep2 but not Portal? How is it possible? It staggers the mind.

Maybe they are uncomfortable playing as a female character =)

Is your last name Allgood by any chance?

Some people aren't into puzzle games like Portal, maybe they just want non-stop shooting action instead of games that require you to think.

I see, it must be Valve's new Customer is Always Wrong policy.

I agree with the first post. I can't play TF2 because my net speed sucks, and portal is amusing, but that's about it. If orange box had come out separately, I would have bought that. This kind of "no choice" move would have been typical for a company like MS, but not Valve.

And don't bullsh*t me about the gift games, because nobody around here wants them from me. That's right, they'd rather stick to their pirated versions and have nothing to do with Steam. Now I'll have two useless CD Keys that I'll probably have to sell on eBay or something.

Right. CLEARLY that's why he prefers Ep2 - because he doesn't like to think! Way to be judgemental. If I wanted an awesome puzzle game, i would play Klotski or something; don't assume what type of game someone likes based on his purchasing decisions.

Um, I wasn't?
Way to get up on the defensive.
I was just giving him an example of who might prefer to play Ep2 instead of Portal, I wasn't pointing it at anybody in particular.
Jesus.

Ok ok I might have been wrong when I said I only wanted to play EP2. Played Team Fortress (beta which is up now) all night.. Crazy game.. lots of fun.

If you're found out you may lose your account. It's in the FAQ on the subject.

I also have the same problem of no one in particular to give the games too. And I don't much fancy a random act of philanthropy to any-old arse over the internet :p

I just had a shitty day, sry.

Somebody please answer me this. Did anybody compain when HL2 came with CSS?

Somebody please answer me this. Did anybody complain when HL2 came with CSS?
1) CSS doesn't compare to HL2 and HLEP1 in Orange Box because people haven't already got it in other packages
2) Both were available fairly soon after release as separate purchases.
3) CSS is CSS. Frankly, there were probably more complaints from CS players that HL2 came with it. It was eventually bundled on its own in a multiplayer package.
4) CSS was never consider, nor billed as being independent from Half-Life 2. It was always considered Half-Life 2's Multiplayer mode, and as a property that has always been seen as a mod elevated to an official station, people expected it to be 'free', as it in fact was. True, TF2 has a similar status, but Portal does not.

And yes, I'm sure there were people who did complain. People always complain.

Give the cd keys for hl2 and ep1 to your halo loving friends and make them realise how crap halo is.

(Marathon was good though back in it's time.)
