Riom, where have you heard that? As far as I could tell it has a very strong fanbase and has received a lot of praise in the modding community. Unfortauntly, introducing such lenghty realism into the FPS world is going to take a lot of people by surprise and I imagine there are still a lot of people who can't tackle such the change from BUNNY HOP BUNNY HOP BUNNY HOP ROCKET SPAM WEEEEEE to a whole different area of gameplay.
This is the kind of stuff I've heard about it:
fully tweaked to how the behave in real life, and the same can be said for everything else in terms of tweaking; vehicles, health, weapon ballistics, squad roles...
you get shot once, you're going to need a medic quick before you bleed out.
Sometimes you won't even see combat. You'll see distant figures fighting in short, sporadic bursts of action from one end of a street to the other
And that there's a specific driver class for every type of vehicle. All that stuff sounds damn terrible to me.

Pretty much if I wanted real army, I'd JOIN a real army ;)

Don't take my comments on games I've played as a basis for how the entire game works. For the most part, someone in your squad will (or is advised to be) a medic, so when you do get chipped by a round he'll patch you up.

I don't see how weapon and vehicle tweaking is a bad thing. Basically, they take all the shite weapons and vehicles from BF2 and edit them to how they actually operate - i.e. in this modern day, excellently.

Yeah, you'll need drivers but just don't do it if you don't want to. No one is making you drive. Be a sniper, support gunner, tank gunner, rifleman...

It's much better than the real army because, y'know, you don't actually get shot at. :p

But then your medic dies and your ****ed. I think medics work fine in BF2. You can survive without them for a bit, but they're essential for keeping alive for a good amount of time.

I just got stalker over steam for $20. started slow but once you descend in to the underground...****ing creepy. get that game, its only 20 buckeroos!!

One word to say. Crysis.

Not for the gameplay, but for the graphics.

Next game I'm getting, though is Bioshock. Apparently it's really good, and the demo was awesome.

Think I'll wait for the schmexeh 24" to arrive...

That's exactly how they work in Project Reality. :/ The only difference is that you can die a lot quicker, and when you are wounded your vision goes blurry and you will eventually bleed out. Either way, no matter how fast it takes to die (which, with the basic use of teamwork and tactics, is what the game is building you up to stay away from), they still work exactly the same with it's core ability. You can survive if you're not foolish in the field, and when you do take a hit they're then essential to getting you back on your feet.

Download it, give it a shot.
