well some0ne already posted a part from the interview in the general editing so more than one person must have theirs. So its not pointless...inless he was lying...

Look in general editing under my SDK thread. It has part of the interview.

The article has screenies from the videos, nothing new.

Interesting, but annyoing facts.

Like tyhat to get the SDK ahead of time, you have to attend a mod conference inseattle.

Geez come on damn give us some new info. I know they want to surprise us and i want them too but u know how it is....

well.. you want it? oki doki heres everything: (dont have a scanner :( )

PC GAMER: you're opening the doors to mod teams a month before HL2 ships. What criteria do modders ened to meet to get this full hands-on treatment with the valve team?
GABE NEWELL: More than anything , we pay attention to what has the attention of the community. If people are talking about a mod, if there's a lot of activity on the various half-life websites, then we try to give more attention to the mod team creating that enthusiasm.
Part of what mod teams will have to do to get access to the SDK is show up at a worshop here in seattle. That'll probbably cut down the number a fair amount.

PCG: with a whole new technology behind HL2, will teams that worked on HL mods have to start from scratch for HL2 mods? Any similarities in the tools?
GN: We've worked on this quite a bit --- to simplify the migration from Half-life to Half-life 2. we've converted a bunch of content ourselves from the original, and in a lot of cases you'll be bale to load, say, an existing map into hammer [the nem of source's level editor] and then save it out and compile.

PCG: How deep do the tools go? can you create your own models, as well as build levels and such?
GN: It depeneds on the task. Face poser is the best tool we've seen for doing facial animations and creating VCDs, the tracks that essentially combine talking, emotions, closed captioning, and so on. Hammer's freat world geometry and entity logic. XSI is where we build a lot of our static props, and we're working with softimage both on better integrating and work flow (eg., shader visualization) and on getting XSI into the hands of the mod teams via Steam. You can cotinue to use Maya or 3DS Max, but we'll have a much better enviornment for people in XSI because of softimage's commitment to the mod teams.
People using the SDK will be able to do alot more in source than was possible in the past.

PCG: Do you expect the tools to be used for mods that aren't first-person shooters (like driving games, etc)
GN: I certainly hope so. Part of what makes the mod community interesting is its ability to expirement. Source gives them a much broader and more apable mod platfrom than they've ever had before. When we ship, a mod author working in source will be able to build games that very few professional development orginizations will be able to match. It will be intresting to see how far they go.

PCG: What orginization will valve have in place to support the mod community?
GN: We'll support people pretty much the way we've been suporting them for half-life. we'll have more bandwidth to do this since we won't be trying to develope Half-life 2 at the same time, as we have been for the last several years.

PCG: Can existing HL mods be converted to Half-life 2 with a simple recompiling, or will they have to be completely rebuilt from scratch?
GN: Lots of it will be mechanical. We want people to be exploring the new functionality, not struggling simply to get back to parity with where they were.

PCG: How much does Valve consider the modability of HL a key factor in its ongiong success?
GN: It's been a huge part of the success. Many people at valve have come out of the mod community, and we all feel the importance of being part of a larger effort to build and sustain gaming. Looking back, Valve wouldn't have existed if it weren't for the modability that id software put into its designs. Hopefully we'll see future teams being born out of the same process. -- Rob Smith

PC gamer also gave this a 6 / 6 bullet rating.. (how good they think the game will be)

Any typos errors just let me know :)

well i just posted the interview in this thread if anyone cares.. it took me 20 min to type it all.. bah.... go to the first page and look on the bottom

yeah good stuff joey, so wait did you get your new pc gamer? the last one that came in the mail was of the new vampire game with the source engine.

joey.... wow I would never get that much strength im WAY to lazy to type anything near that long lol  hats off to you

lol thank you and yes i did get my PC Gamer :)

For some reason i've been getting them in the middle of the month.... lol not that im complaining or anything :D

I'm looking forward to november and december's issue.. see what they gave HL2 for a rating :D

well im just saying, gabe has been saying "no comment" alot and it might just happen....the worst of all things....a later release. People still assume hes just tired of people asking for the release date and he just says no comment, or that its true. And im starting to believe its true, i dont think this will go through.

Well towards your question when you said, "I'm looking forward to november and december's issue.. see what they gave HL2 for a rating"

We just dont know if it will be out. I bet TF2 will be like summer or xmas 2004, thats if HL2 goes out on the 30th on September.

you bastards:
