Hey everyone. I'm bored. I am about to acquire some games for my PC and I was wondering if there were any must play games out there. I'm looking in terms of storyline and gameplay mostly. No sports games, no RTS games. FPS, 3rd person, and RPG work fine for me. I just got Oblivion and I'm gonna play through that, but if there's any recommendations I completely trust your opinions. Pick one must play game and tell me why. I appreciate any help.

Throw Oblivion in the trash while you still can. The IQ loss is not worth it.

Among the games I reccomend:

* I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream - if you can get it, it's an amazing, but very dark and cruel adventure game, based on Harlan Ellison's short story. Use a walkthrough, though, to avert frustration
* Blade Runner - a greatgreatgreat adventure game. Nuff said.
* Aliens vs. Predator 2 - no better Aliens game has been released so far. The upcoming Aliens: USCM isn't released yet, so it doesn't count. :)
* Interstate '76 - muscle cars, big guns and funk. What is there not to like?
* Beyond Good & Evil - elementary, dear Watson.
* Deus Ex. No, really.
* Knights of the Old Republic 2. Mandatory, though you can wait for the Restoration mod to appear.

System Shock 2 - It's kick-ass, if you can get it running on you're computer. I just beat it not too long ago. Fantastic.

I also agree with AvP 2, get it and the expansion. It's SUCH a good/underrated game. I love the Human campaign, nice and scary. In fact.. I think I'll go install it and play through Human campaign right now.. I haven't beat any campaign on the expansion yet...

Get Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and expansions, too (for PC), seriously the mods they have for can make like 30 brand new games in themselves..

Oblivion's fun for a bit, the amount of mods that are out for it makes it well worth the purchase.

I'd also recommend the Baldur's Gate series, top-class RPGs :)

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. Max Payne 2. Deus Ex. If you haven't played Quake 3 Arena, you should. Unreal Tournament. Fallout / Fallout 2 / System Shock 2 I haven't played more than a bit, but are all heavily recommended by friends.

Deus Ex. Mount & Blade. Hidden and Dangerous 2. Hitman games.

Also, ive seen someone recommend beyond good and evil in every "recommend a game" thread ever. What makes it so good? Ive only seen trailers, and it looked very meh.

All the good old ones that I've played and can remember, in no particular order:

Theif 1 and 2
No-one Lives Forever 1 and 2
Red Faction 1
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Prince of Persia
Doom II
Worms 2
Knights of the Old Republic 1
Half-Life
Half-Life: Opposing Force
Call of Duty 1
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (free)
Grand Theft Auto III

Black and White
Homeworld
Half-life
Ground Control
Sim City 3000/2000
Total Annihilation
Starcraft
Freespace (or was it freelancer? I dunno, the really good shooter)'

Oh, no strategy? **** it. Get them anyway.

Jagged Alliance 2 & Unfinished Business
Grim Fandango
The Settlers 3 & Mission Disk & Quest of the Amazons
Ground Control (now free, so get it) & Dark Conspiricy
Emperor: Battle For Dune
Shogo: Mobile Armour Division
Unreal Tournament
Half-Life

Full Throttle, an old LucasArts game. Inca (published 1993 by Sierra). It took up 12 floppies.

OH SHI-

I remember me and some friends used to huddle around one of their computers while one of us played that game. I must've been really young though (I'm 18 now).

I realize now though that most of my favorite games are on consoles so I'm no help here.

Max Payne, GTAIII, Tron 2.0

Oldies for my time in PC gaming.

Sheesh, most of these hardly qualify as 'oldies'.

I would say try to get Sierra collections for Kings/Space quest for adventure (as well as Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, etc)...

RPGs, DnD ones such as Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, Fallout.

Daggerfall > Morrowind

Morrowind is still quite simplified compared to Daggerfall, when it comes to stats etc.

Not to mention that Daggerfall's world is TWICE the size of Great Britain.

Yeah, and lets not forget the naked witches that are HOT as hell!<3

Any game from the Jedi Knight series is a winner in my book, particularly DF2. :D

Half life
max payne 1 and 2
thief 1 and 2 and 3
deus ex

Dark Earth

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Warhammer: Dark Omen

Max Payne 1 > MP2

Hidden & Dangerous 2

Mafia

Sims 2

Guild Wars

The ones I've played recently :-

Comanche 3, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Grim Fandango.

Deus Ex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, forgot to mention Deus Ex.
Really really good too.

Blood. Not Blood II:The Chosen though. It uses the same build engine as Duke Nukem 3D, which BTW is another good recommendation. Blood is quite possibly my favorite PC FPS of all time.

Also, if you can stand the HillBilly humor, I liked the Redneck Rampage series too.

Deus Ex
Half Life
Mechwarrior 2
Black and White
Jedi Knight
Warcraft II (or III)

Dunno how many of these count as "old" games, but all are worth the replay.

It's already been said, but +1 for:

Baldur's Gate series
Grim Fandango
Planescape: Torment

If you want to **** around with DOSBOX, the Crusader games are ace.

Crusader: No Regret, Crusader: No Remorse, bitches.

* Knights of the Old Republic 2. Mandatory, though you can wait for the Restoration mod to appear.

I heard it didn't do the first game any justice, storywise

Fragile Allegiance was my favourite game, it was one of the few 4X games where you could launch missiles at others from the ground

Little Big Adventure/ Twinsun's oddesey is a good one
