PC Games: Oldies But Goodies Recommendations

Stunts, not for racing but for the map editor. ;)

Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness

Commanche

F22 Lightning 2

Homeworld 1 and 2

Theif

Commandos (you will destory your computer after the 2nd mission)

Traffic Giant

Doom I and II

Duke Nukem 3d

Stronghold

Thants all I can think of for now...

Blood. Not Blood II:The Chosen though. It uses the same build engine as Duke Nukem 3D, which BTW is another good recommendation. Blood is quite possibly my favorite PC FPS of all time.

Also, if you can stand the HillBilly humor, I liked the Redneck Rampage series too.

This.

I'd also recommend Shadow Warrior.

American Mcgee's Alice is supposed to be awesome
never played it myself

Wow I didn't expect all these replies. Thanks guys. I think the first one I'm gonna go for is System Shock 2. Do I need to play the first one?

Any Dune game except possibly Emperor. I still have my Dune 1 (Yes before the RTS) CD with music and fmvs awesomeness.

System shock 2 has a problem running on multicore processors, so use ImageCfg.exe to fix that (google it).

And get Deus Ex, even if you to sell your soul for it.

System Shock 1 is better than 2 imo, but I think you need DOSBox to run it.

Freespace 2. Download the SCP project and see it in nifty Dx9 visuals!

Cannon Fodder. That was some kick-ass shit right there :D

I have this problem, and it's not on that site (for SS2).

Whenever you start the game it freezes a few minutes in, what you need to do is CTRL+ALT+DELETE, go to the processes tab, find SHOCK2.EXE, right click, select 'set affinity' from the little pop-up menu, and make it so only your CPU 0 is the only checked box.

Pfft...and oldie and a goodie...

Rise of the Triad!

So I just got Beyond Good and Evil since its been recommended so many times.

**** YOU GUYS. This game pisses me off and doesnt even work. I should have known, it was an Ubisoft game. 90% of all pc games i get from ubisoft dont even work. In this game I had some ridiculous audio/video sync problems, that i had to fix by getting a program someone made specifically to fix this game, which forces my quad core processor to run at 100% all the time during the game. Once thats fixed I get all sorts of rediculous artifacting and flickering of all the in-game geometry and particle effects and such, even the main character's eyes pop out of her head every few seconds.

And of course when i try to take screenshots or record with fraps, the problem goes away for the screenshot, or the duration of the recording, then comes back immediately after. Oh and thats not to mention i get a whopping 2-3 fps on the hovercraft part in the beginning.

Worst 20 bucks i ever spent.

It's an old game. You got a quad-core. Try turning three of the cores off.

Wheres the off switch?

EDIT: Is it the set affinity thing in the task manager? If so, then that didnt change anything, still lots of artifacting and bad framerate in the hovercraft levels.

beyond good and evil is a crap game anyways... save the headache and sell it or throw it in the bin.

I notice with shock that nobody has mentioned Theme Hospital. I believe I got that for my 9th birthday or Christmas with simcity 2000 (in a boxset) and I loved it. Then one of my friends stole it before I could finish it. It was the highlight of my dark youth. I don't know if it is any good though. I still yearn for a sequel.

Worst 20 bucks i ever spent.

Even more a kick in the nuts is that it's in most bargain bins and can be found for less than 5 dollars. It's an O.K. game overall, nothing I would go nuts about.

Games I recommend:

Thief 1 & 2
System Shock 1 & 2
Fallout 1 & 2
Planescape Torment
Wasteland
