I wanna buy a new PC and I'm aware that PCI-E is the best. I've looked into the X-800, the X-850, and the 6800 (not GT or anything, just plain). I can afford the 6800 PC, but how much slower is it than the X-850 and 800, or even than the GT vers? Can a 6800 run lost coast and some next gen games like UT 2007? If not, than wtf can?

Not much difference. And you'd be crazy to think the 6800 couldn't run a Lost Coast level.

yeah? So how about UT 07 and ......stalker........is that a stretch?

Other than having doubble the bus... nothing
-.-
Of course PCI-E (16x) faster than AGP (8x).

At the moment the difference between agp8 and pci-e is very small.

The difference between the 6800 GT and Reg 6800 is what I want to know. Also how it compares w/ the other PCIe cards......I dont care about AGP....

Ok... PCI-E has double the bus of AGP 8x... which means it has the potential to have cards twice as fast as any AGP card.

So yes! PCI-E has the potential to be twice as powerfull as AGP.
However, the performance dosent come from your slot, it comes from your card.

Whitezero he has said he dosn't care about PCI-E and AGP mumbling he just wants to know about the 6800GT vs the 6800.

Well I don't know the performance diffrence myself. Though i'm sure someone here would.

If you can get the BFG 6800 OC then that's what I would choose (if you plan on overclocking), otherwise i'd get a 6800GT if I could get it for a good price, and finally if the 6800GT is too expensive then i'd get a 6600GT and upgrade later, not that it's not a good vid card but for the next gen games you'll need a beast.

6800 only has 12 pipes (correct me if i am wrong) GT has 16.
you will need GT if you want stalker or lost coast and must have for U3 engine games to run good.

I have a regular 6800 and my dad has a 6800GT. Specs of my pc in my sig, my dads are

A64 3500+, 1 gig Corsair XMS, 80 gig SATA hdd, Asus A8V dlx (s939)

His pc gets around 21,000 in 3d mark 01, mine around 18,500 (only 12 pipes open). There's not a huge difference, but noticeable. The only downside is the regular 6800 has plain DDR memory, not GDDR3.

I'd actually get a 6600GT now, and then get one of the x800 or 6800 series in a few months when the next-gen cards have come out and cause a price drop in the current topend ones.

's what I'm doing.

I didn't say that.....my friend got on my Pc, saw this thread in my bookmarks, and thought it would be funny to write that (I have my password saved).....

Well, neway, Ty for the Info, I'll just go with the reg 6800, because It's the only one Dell gives out with the Desktop I'm customizing, and yes I know I can make my own a lot cheaper....but with the PCI-E slot, I can always buy a new card l8er on.......I'm too lazy to make my own PC right now.

or, i youve got a few thousand to spend...buy 2 7800's in SLI config when they come out.
A nice edition to your solid gold games room :p

You have a good plan there sir. So the x800 will play the next gen games? If so i'll get one, otherwise il have to upgrade everything but ram/cpu :(
