Now, I haven't used Peer Guardian in awhile, but talking to friends about it was a wise decision to start using it again. The reason I stopped sing it was because some of my favorite websites were being blocked by the program, including this very site.

The only way I can get on this site is by turning it off heh. Well I've been getting hammered with attempted connections hundreds of times from "LimeLight Networks", and few times from the "Department of Labor", now can anyone tell me why the Department of Labor would be trying to connect to my computer? And can anyone tell me what the heck is "LimeLight Networks"?

sounds like a spyware app (the limelight networks) or it might be some site you're going to.

Use a firewall instead of "peer guardian" or whatever. My mother put a similar program on my computer without my consent. Needless to say, I...erm...disabled it with some interesting hacking skills that made it appear to function, but returned no data. :smoking:

Let us consult Wikipedia, the Tome of Infinite Wisdom.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PeerGuardian (emphasis mine)
The design of PeerGuardian is to prevent the collection of evidence that can be used as proof that a particular IP address is connected to a particular network. In order to successfully sue in the United States, one must receive data from that person, very detailed logs must be obtained as to their activity on the network, and there must be proven evidence that particular files are available from that person.

This means that the information provided by a tracker or eDonkey peer is insufficient, and the organizations hired by RIAA, etc must directly connect to each individual they wish to investigate. This process is automated and is carried out through high speed connections bought by various subcontractors, such as BayTSP, MediaSentry.

In the case of fake eDonkey servers, such as the ones hosted by MediaSentry, PeerGuardian will prevent you from connecting to the server in the first place, preventing all danger in this respect.

Limelight Networks (http://www.limelightnetworks.com/about.html) is a "content delivery network" of some sort, which may or may not mean "RIAA puppet". I'm not sure why the Department of Labor is active on the Internet, though one of its purposes is to monitor the economy.

Try ZoneAlarm. Its the best. Beats the rest.

That was probably one of the most annoying commercial I've seen in awhile, incidently that commercial was played a total of 3 times straight. The thing was pissing me off

Limelight networks has something to do with the hosting for hl2.net. It's not spyware or something bad.

Peer Guardians blocklist that you can download is total crap. It blocks everything usefull. Including servers for MMOs, fileplanet, and even VALVe networks.

On the PeerGuardian main screen, just click the "Allow HTTP" button. It will still block IP's connecting to you.

The end.

Limelight Networks is both our website's hosting and the hosting for the steampowered network.

So yeah, it's nothing bad.

I use PG2, it blocks lots of stuff, everything I dont want it to block, i simply 'allow permanently', its mostly useful on bittorrent because it blocks a lot of Universitys (lots of bored college ppl eh).
