It says you can gift the game to a friend, but you can just keep the code for yourself if you like

Yeah, when you sign up for the newsletter it creates an account for you, you then go to that page when you log in and it will have a link which you can click to send the code to someone or yourself.

And yes it works, just got my email with a free copy of the game inside

Edit: Made it all the way to downloading and installing the game. Now it just keeps failing when I try to unlock the game with my code. I guess the servers are just overloaded, I'll try again later.

Anyway, I finally figured out how to get this shit to work. You have to enter your POP code into this place first: http://store.popcap.com/license.php
And then it gives you a different type of code you're supposed to use.

This is totally bullshit and confusing because it says NOTHING about doing this, and on the screen when you launch the game and it tells you to enter your code it actually gives a POP code as an example, as if that's going to work.

I was kind of let down by the "download free levels!" thing because I thought it meant I could download tons of user-levels and be able to make my own as well. But alas, just some premade packs.

Still very cool. The new character's special power is awesome.

I had to do nothing like that. I had something where I gift a friend by email... I entered another of my emails. It gave me a link to go download... I filled out the information, I completed the order, it gave me an order number, I downloaded the game, and entered the order number... and voila.

I guess popcap just hates you Veggies. I clicked the link in my email and it linked me straight to a checkout and all I had to do was enter in some info to get the game. I didn't even have to enter the product key when I downloaded the game. It was already filled in.
