Saw this recent article that Gabe made on their homepage, not sure where this story comes from but it is nice to see people such as themselves supporting the good work that the ESRB do in ensuring everyone can enjoy games. The problem that i have with idiots like Jack Thompson isn't because he doesn't want kids playing adult games, i support his course for doing that, but he wants no one playing adult games. As an adult, i should have the right to play an 18 game if i want to, however, i also feel that it should be wrong for a minor to buy an 18 game due to the content. If the parents consider an 18/Mature game ok for their children, that is for them to decide and they should buy it for the children and be able to fully understand the content the game has before they purchase it.
Game content should only be limited by the developers imagination, if the developer wants to create a super violent game - as long as the game isn't racist or fanatical, then they should have that right and it should be rated as a mature game. I also agree that shops should be punished for selling such games to children, if they don't, whats the point of having the ESRB anyway when retailers and shops are just going to ignore it anyway. However, like i said, if something bad happens due to a child playing an adult game, the parents of that child should be punish, retailers should only be punished if it can be proven that they knowingly sold the game to an underage child.
So what is everyones opinion on this? Do you think retailers should be punished for selling mature games to underage children? Do you think developers should have strict limits on what they can put in games?
