People turned away from Half Life 2 because of early releasing?

Imagine this: You are an average 35 year old Joe. You got to best buy early, and see Half Life 2. You think "Oh I heard that game is supposed to be good". You buy it, you take it home. You install it, get ready to play, but you get a "Server not responding" message because the game has not been activated yet. You go back to the store and hopefully return it because no one knows what the **** is going on. He doesn't buy Half Life 2 again.

Is this the real deal?

i think the person would be smart enough to check the steam fourms or ask someone..

most likly it would simply say that the game will be activated at a certian time.

I've seen this concern a few times...but you can't return opened games to BB. Only exchange for the same item.

i think it should be the responsibility of the Retailer, if they decide to release half life 2 early to warn the gamers that they will not be able to play it. They may actually receive less complaints and returns :D

Well its the shops fault, anyway, If you took it back saying it's not working I would think the shop person would tell them why.

No, its not.

If you register early, you get a clear message informing you got your copy too early and that that HL2 is not active yet. So anyone in this situation should be well enough informed so as to wait for release.

I heard that you just get a server not responding message. Do you have the game?
