The Good: Awesome presentation, featuring cutting-edge graphics and sound; delicious assortment of high-powered near-future weapons; excellent cooperative mission mode lets you play split screen or online; lots of multiplayer options, including some clever twists on familiar themes; one of the best original soundtracks this year.

The Bad: Characters can look ugly up close, plus some other minor graphical glitches; some missions are frustrating, especially since you can't save midmission; pretty weak storyline is incidental to all the action.

I'm rather excited now \o/

Will this be available on the PC? Looks neat. The dual wield revolvers was very Serious Sam, but the graphics look good.

can't wait for co-op and multiplayer, brings back memories of perfect dark/golden eye/smash bros n64 nights.

Not only co-op PD - but fullscreen, with no slow down and high detail, co-op online!

Sure, it won't quite be the social experience that split screen is, but it will much better in other ways.

it makes me happy to know ill be playing this tonight and probably well into the morning. thanks for the info sir.

I am green with envy. If you get the chance, can you try a single player mission on the hardest difficulty and let me know how tough it is (in comparsion to the original or GE if possible:))

Where are you playing it btw?

Good man.

Wow. That is actually higher than I thought Gamespot would score it.

Damn, I wish I was getting a 360 soon.

EDIT: What do you guys think the chances of me getting one are if I just show up at Walmart at midnight with no pre-order?

No waiting in line, just me and a credit card. Less than 5%? I live in Nebraska by the way.

Review is good. I look forward to playing it on wednesday. Americans already get it...we won't get it until a day after...maybe that's why Canadians have more patients than Americans..CAUSE WE GOTTA WAIT LONGER FOR A GOOD GAME!! :(

Oh God, I want this.

I've actually had the original PD music running through my head all day. Damn, that was catchy stuff.

wow its REALLY good.

ill be playing it. if anyone wants me, ill be in the other room.

in other words, if anyone wants me, tough shit.

the screenshots do NOT do it justice.

just as a quickie review, based upon 1 hour of solid gameplay, it seems to stay pretty true to the original (which i played a bit on my 64 before i picked this up, to jog my memory.) as with the original the objectives are simple enough. in terms of difficulty, it goes from very easy to VERY ****in hard. bash my head into the wall hard. the story i havent really gotten into but it seems pretty standard fare.. not too great, not too bad. really the highpoint is multiplayer which i thought was a blast. but it seems to have a solid singleplayer, and definitely a solid multiplayer

weapons cool, of course. i enjoyed seeing the briefcase gun again. graphics are gorgeous, especially if you like bloom. all in all, a really solid game and well worth the money spent. i would compare it to "halo" in terms of fun-factor (for me at least) but if you have any interest at all in console shooters then this is really a solid purchase.

there is, as reported, a HUGE difference between HDTV and regular. HUGE.

Do the objectives and starting points and stuff change depending on difficulty?

Read this semi-review if you want to hear a little less mindless praise.

I've been following these updates too.

Their criticisms, namely lack of jump, missions not ending when an objective is failed, and the visuals sometimes varying in quality, don't really bother me. Infact I prefer to have no jump in a slower paced shooter like this, and prefer that missions don't end automatically when an objective isn't met (much of the time I spent with GE and PD was messing about with weapons and cheats - had the levels ended every time a mistake was made this wouldn't have been possible, and the games would have been considerably worse as a result).

As for the visuals, PDZ certainly looks enough for me :)

Best Buy ran out of 360s! I was so pissed. Oh well, I am glad to see PD0 with a good score, even if the plot is rather simple instead of the twisted, convoulted awesome one of the first PD.

I never paid any attention to the plot in PD - something about rescuing a good alien and killing some bad ones. tbh I was having too much fun shooting things to care much :)

uhhh sure it is!

with the voice chat microphone play-kit! from fisher-price

;)

Voice comms never quite compares, though - but is certainly a very welcome addition.

It's better for me, becuase I get the full screen. Plus I can't stand being around people :)

(Counter-Operative mode will return )

This is sweet!!

Let me get this straight--so when u download more multiplayer maps, you will also be able to play them as singleplayer scenarios?

//edit - I misread - yes, that's what it sounds like :)

Finally the haters can be shut up. Considering it's been hyped to a ridiculous extent globally, getting a 9 from Gamespot (who are revered as somewhat tough scorers) is pretty damn good. Only 10 days to go :hmph:

The big question however is not that it recieved a decent score. Does it live up to the first game? Or does it simply have the same feel but is nothing more than a really good FPS?

Why does it have to be more than really good FPS?

Isn't "really good" a worthy enough quality?

Because Perfect Dark was and still is considered to be one of the best ever made. Doom 3 is considered a "really good" FPS. The Unreal tournament series is often considered to be "really good" FPS's. Can it stand on the same level as Half-Life 1 and 2, with the original Perfect Dark, with the original Doom?

Honestly, it sounds like it fell a little short of Perfect Dark, but that's an incredibly hard task to achieve as PD is pretty much perfect.

Still, Rare are going to be adding Challenges and Counter Co-op shortly after release, so it's obvious that they want to keep the game fresh and to offer new stuff along the way, which is great.

Aye, that's the biggie. We won't know for a while, and all have different expectations and hopes for the game.

I've yet to read a single criticism that bothers me in anyway, but have read much that sounds positive. Infact, every review sounds a little rushed at the moment - comments about the game on the hardest setting limited to the occasional passing reference. I doubt any of the reviewers have spent enough time with PDZ to see the gameplay mechanics hidden beneath the shiny visuals (it took months of play for people to realise how great GE was, and years to see the genius :))

If it just turns out to be Perfect Dark with better graphics and online co-op I will be ecstatic. I don't a revolution, infact I barely want an evoltuion :)

Sayings like that I can't stand to be honest. If we had that opinion throughout history we would still be stuck using horses for transport.

I'm referring to the FPS genre as in "shoot stuff. It dies." I'm not making a statement of all humanity to not fix what isn't broken.
