Perfect Dark Zero -Gamespot review

I'm referring to the FPS genre as in "shoot stuff. It dies." I'm not making a statement of all humanity to not fix what isn't broken.
It can still be easily applied though. Most of the time we never realize if something is broken until something better comes along. I'm not saying Perfect Dark Zero should have been different however. It's just something to keep in mind.

I still think we ought to see what Free Radical can come up with on the 360.

Its likely to be interesting.

Timesplitters has never been a match to Golden Eye or Perfect Dark, especially in single player - an area that the series is average in at best.

Whoa, TimeSplitters 3 had an awesome SP campaign.

That it did. Or at least once they did away with the single missions involving random people at least.

"Time to split!"

QFT

Goldeneye>PD and free radical was started by a bunch of the goldeneye team.

Though I would be more interested in Free Radical doing stuff on PS3 with 6 player split-screen.

That would man more if the TS series was good for anything other than a mindless multiplayer blast after a few pints.

Oh, and I think PD had a better single player campaign than GE - but only just :)

I found it annoying playing with DK mode on with any missions involving Elvis. His head was just too damn big! Accidental head shots on him were common which always made me feel bad because he was just too damn cool. ;(

Got this and condemned . Well see how they are when i play.

mmmmmm :)

GameSpot's got the game guide up already. I was reading over the weapons and it all sounds very very good.

Well most people seem to be saying PDZ is just good for MP too. And IMO GE had better MP maps than PD.

i dunno man, i got it hooked up on a friends plasma, and it dont look THAT great. its on 1080i right now, but ima have to wait and hook it up to my lcd at home ( higher res) and see if that makes a difference. the basketball game looked really good though. we tried out splitscreen on the 44in, but its still a lil hard to see on some of the maps. single player is great though.

I agree.

They arent saying PDZ is strongest in MP - unless you're reading different reviews to me.

Gamespy say it isn't the killer app XBox 360 fans were hoping for.
But most likely, since it's the only good thing out there, fans will make it the killer app regardless.

I can appreciate what you are saying but.. doesn't that make it the killer app after all? yes I agree. And its definately NOT the only good thing out there...its the best of the best thats all

Off the top of my head: CoD2, NFS:MW, PGR3, and Kameo all got outstanding reviews as far as I know. I know I would love to have them and would play them religeously :)
I guess since 2 of these are available for PC.. then what you are saying is that PDZ is the best exclusive FPS on 360

That happens everywhere (and far more frequently with pc games)

Just as with the original, we won't know how good PDZ is untill we get some time with it. All the reviews seem to be based on a snatched few hours with a game, that if it's anything like Perfect Dark or Golden Eye, demands many hours/days of play to appreciate.

I'm certainly open to the possibility that PDZ isn't a great game - but am not going to give much credence to reviewers who have obviously played through the single player campaign on easy/medium settings, had a few games of co-op, and brief experience with multiplayer.

1up review - 9/10 :)

Again, every ciriticism in the review doesn't bother me in the slightest. Infact, I couldn't give a toss about the story - it's all about the gunplay.

Some quotes that made me happy:

'practice makes perfect and repetition breeds mastery.'

'The way Rare has designed its single-player mission structure certainly enforces this old-fashioned gaming philosophy. Beating a mission on any of the two default difficulties unlocks a further skill level (on the same mission) for you to tackle. So, in theory, an obsessive compulsive gamer could very well spend days trying to zen-run the first few maps, unlocking weapons and gadgets in the process.'

'Certainly, PDZ bears more spiritual resemblance to an old-school, side-scrolling shooter than it does its modern FPS contemporaries.'

'Fighting off waves of semi-intelligent bullet fodder with a friend in PDZ is undoubtedly the game's greatest virtue.'

I'm an old school gamer at heart :)

For you fans of co-op ive never seen a co-op game thats as good as PDZ. When your playing co-op it's not single player with a second player. They make you work together. Such as you "identify" one target in a stealth mission and now your partner has to tag the other. Also some doors can only be opened by both players pressing a switch at the same time. I have also noticed that one player will have to press a switch and that opens a door for the other to go through. There is a lot of little things like this that make co-op awsome.

There are also missions that are definately better co-op. Such as the mission where 1 player is on the streets and the other player has to help him from the rooftops until they can meet up where they will have to fight the end boss. 1 player has to kill all the guys that come while the other player has to try and shoot down the ship.

Co-op IMO is reason enough to get a 360 and this game.

Glirk Dient: Better than Timesplitters 3 (if you have played that of course)? :O

Co-op is my favourite type of multiplayer mode, and it will always be like that. More co-op to the people! ;)

I never played that...just a demo and all it seemed like was a goldeneye wanna be so I didn't get it and stuck with goldeneye. I have played most every co-op game and found some of those amazingly fun. This is even better than those.

Sounds great :)

single player is still fun, but MP sux ass, and to me thats a big part of the game.

I like MP a lot. It takes some getting used to. Dodging and using cover is under rated by most players. I love to take the throwing thing for range and when someone comes close I flashbang em and take out my sword to chop them up. It works wonders but nets ya 10k cash in dark ops.
