Perfect Dark Zero... Near-final build: The hype starts now.

Just look at the features and gameplay types PDO offers, though. FPS may be a dime a dozen these days, but decent ones are very thin on the ground - and none since PD have offered nearly as much substance (or challenge and quality combat - imo).

HL2, for all it's achievements, lasted me a few weeks and run throughs before becoming quite dull. FEAR and Q4 turned out to be very short, easy, and lacking in any lastability/replay. There's just nothing to these games - it just takes a few plays to stretch them so thin you can see out the otherside.

Absolutely. With the recent announcement that Simulants are in fact in the game (and available for use online), PDZ's multiplayer is going to offer endless replayability, just like the original.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed that there are only six multiplayer maps available. However, on the original Perfect Dark, I only played a handful of the maps out of the fairly extensive list, so I think six might cut it.

I hope they remade the Complex and Felicity (a.k.a. Facility, for you Goldeneye afficionados), those maps are both classic and utterly timeless.

Can you say downloadable content?

Well at least we can hope for more maps in the future :|

What I really want is another shooter with some substance to it. I'm sick to death of fps that last a few days/weeks (FEAR, Far Cry, Doom 3, Quake 4, even HL2), and offer next to no challenge. If PD0 keeps me occupied for as long as the original did it will be worth the price of the 360 alone - and last me far longer, and offer more enjoyment, than all those other shooters I mentioned put together.

Sometimes I don't understand you Warbie.

You claim not to appreciate HL2 even though you have nearly 4,000 posts on a HL2 website.

You have very good taste in games, that much I know. Why are you always ripping on HL2?

oh yea and you know it. especially since everyone gets xbox live this time
awesome. another reason that games aren't going to take forever to come out. they know they can always drop another level for us every so often. I saw them doing that on the original Xbox.

I wonder if they'll charge people for the levels, like say, THQ did with the Full Spectrum Warrior levels that were downloadable after release.

Wouldn't really surprise me.:)

I'd be willing to pay 2.5 bucks for new GOOD maps tho.

Perhaps he realizes HL2 isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I imagine he's here for the discussions and people (which are both fantastic by online forum standards), rather than to sit around and laud a year-old game with praise, regardless of whether or not it deserves it.

HL2 is great, and Aftermath is bound to be better, but there's more than that around here for discussion fodder.

Don't get me wrong. I really like the Warbs and it would be a shame if he left here for greener pastures.

It's just that I feel HL2 deserves at least a modicum of respect for what it accomplished.

HL2 gets all the respect it deserves. To be honest, as good as it is, it doesn't entirely trump other games as far as combat goes. Most of its praise should, and does, go to its excellent physics, graphics, and storytelling.

It wasn't meant as a harsh criticism, DarkStar, and I did enjoy HL2 (Stigmata summed up my feelings about the game pretty well in the above post). It didn't keep me occupied for long, though (two weeks infact) - and other to see the sites again there's not much reason to go back. Compared to Perfect Dark and Golden Eye, whch each offered years of obsessive and frenzied single and multiplayer gaming, it does feel a little lacking in content and replayability (the shooting range in PD lasted me longer than HL2 ;))

Anyhoo, I'm here because I enjoy this forum and the company :)

I just played the game at a place in Vancouver (www.playxbox360.ca) and I must say, Perfect Dark Zero is a pretty fun game. I wasn't really interested at first, but if I'm going to get an Xbox 360, this game would be one of the launch games I'd get (if it is a launch game). The graphics are really nice dispite some anti-aliasing issues, but it doesn't get in the way.

Time for a media and information update. Firstly, some new screenshots to salivate over:

Secondly, copies of the game have arrived in-store and employees are leaking tons of new pieces of information about the game.

- The gameplay is fluid and FPS are solid no matter what is going on
- Challenges return from the original game
- Simulants are in (this has been known for a while), and the AI is apparently spectacular - they pose quite a challenge.
- Retail versions of the game include blood and gore. Pools of blood form under enemies and blood smears across walls if an someone slides across one. It even runs down slopes.
- Disarming is in, and it works like Riddick where you actually see yourself taking the gun. You can also shoot weapons out of the hands of enemies.
- The game relies heavily on skill, and not the weapon you have. Someone with a pistol can take out someone with an assault rifle just as easily as the other way round.
- Three MP vehicles confirmed:
- A jetpack with a minigun that also doubles as a land-based walking mech.
- A motorcycle that holds 2.
- A hover tank, little information known.

I for one am excited.

Although I dont like it as much it is a million times better then "emo dark"

Man I can't wait for this game. The original is still fun to this day and it had so much content I still havent beaten every challenge/difficulty etc.

is it just me or does this game look a bit like far cry (a good thing)

I think it is just you. I see no islands and palm trees (but the GFX techniques can be similiar).

I'm talking about the character modeling, shading, and bump mapping yeah. This looks more polished though

oooooohhh it's getting exciting now :)

Console launches at Christmas - can't beat it \o/

Perhaps some HL2.net co-op meetings?

I know this is offtopic but i hate to create a new thread

If i get the VGA cord for an Xbox360 will 1080i and all the other resolutions look just as good on a PC monitor? and are these resolutions always wide screen or.. wtf is going on?

I don't really know; I wanted to do this with a gamecube, but I don't have a gamecube and I don't know how to do it.

Games run in widescreen by default, and every game is required to run at at maximum of at least 720p. Whether or not 1080i is supported varies from game to game.

Widescreen and 720p can be disabled for older TVs.

[edit] It'll probably look just as good on PC, since the only real differences between an Xbox and PC game are the resolutions (discounting whether or not the Xbox can handle said PC game).

This game and condemed are the only remaining titles taht have steller potiental, although I bet that condemed just goes to about a 9.1. But Perfect dark I feel is going to be the Halo  of the xbox 360.

yeah, I got home from school, went out and bought the best vga cables I could find, rented Resident evil 4, got home. i went and tried to hook up the game cube and everything, but when I went to plug the cube into the VGa cable, i was like "shit, I guess I don't have a gamecube." Well, ill just wait for the revolution I think (it is kind of funny saying that, which makes the revolution a very good title for a console. It kind of makes me feel like a revolutionary.)

Looks like the game scored a 9/10 in some swedish magazine:
