I'm looking to get a new computer this summer and I plan to have it made by www.ibuypower.com (the best site I know of that builds it for you - any better sites - please tell me).

I see the price difference in the x700 & x800 is pretty big. I'm wondering how big of a perf. gap there is.

Also...how much of a difference would corsair ram make as opposed to a regular brand?

not that big of a performance gap...................
what model are you planning on getting?

I'd be more worried about your cpu.. (but i dont know what it is)
Just make sure its up there.... : p

The build I plan to get is

AMD 64 PCI-E 3000
1024mb pc3200 ram
ATI Radeon x700 256mb (don't know what brand it'd be - it doesn't specify on the website)
etc.

Foxconn WinFast NF4K8MC-ERS nVidia nForce4 Chipset w/LAN, 5.1 Sound, IEEE-1394, USB 2.0 PCI-E Motherboard

^^^
That's the mobo.

I just forgot to separate the pci-e part :P not like the cpu has a pci-e slot on it.

Ok.. so it is 3000+... sounds pretty good. But if you are just purshesing this now, and you dont have it now.. i would sujest maybe a higher end CPU.. Like 3500+ or higher, because in a couple months there will be something newer, or HL2's HDR will come out, and just kill everyones CPU..

I'd say just make it yourself. What a rip, paying somebody else to do it for you. You don't even get the fun and satisfaction of doing it.

There is actually a big performance gap, the 6600gt is a much better performer than the x700. Even then i'd avoid an 8 pipe card.

Hmmm...how do the x800 Pro and the 6800 GT compare?

EDIT: pci-e that is.

EDIT2: Jeez...there's x800, x800 XL, x800 Pro...what's the best there and by how much?

If you can't tell, I kinda need some help in the vid card department :P

x800 xt pe is by far the best of those. But money wise, i'd go with a 6800 gt pci-e. I think the whole x800 line is a rip, except for the xl.

So 6800GT or x800 XL eh? Ok, thanks.

im soon ordering a 3200+ with an x800xl from ibuypower.com as welll... i'd recommend that :)

The x800 pro is a bad performer compared to the x800xl and 6800gt. The pro is a 12 pipe card and teh xl and gt are 16 pipe cards.
