Periodic sound/texture/model/menu corruption

Well, I'm loving HL2 and all, but I'm having a lot of bugs. Every little while (10-20 minutes) HL2 just bugs out on me. Sounds turn to static/screeching (and some sounds don't play at all), the menus are messed up (all the options are stacked on top of each other) and occassionally, textures will turn to solid black and/or red, and models (of NPCs/Combine soldiers) will load the "Vitruvian man" default state (ie, standing straight with arms spread) instead of the proper joint deformation. Ctrl-alt-del takes care of this, and restarting makes it work fine, but it happens again soon after. So far I'm in the 'water hazard' segment (just got the .357) and this problem has been present throughout. My specs:

NF7-S w/ Soundstorm
AMD Mobile Barton 2500+
BFG 6800OC
1GB Corsair DDR400
WinXP Pro SP2
HL2 downloaded from Steam, reads 100% complete.
-heapsize 512000 launch option

CS-Source ran 100% fine for me so I have no idea what's the deal. I turned off Aniso from the in-game options, but that hasn't helped at all.

While I thought CS Source was working perfectly, now that I think about it, I feel the same thing happens to a MUCH lesser extent in CS:S too. Most noticeably, when a bomb explodes (only in some levels) or there's something with a lot of sound (shooting through a bunch of boards to get through a passageway for example).

Howdy there Uberjumper. So strange seeing you at 6 post count, unlike on Relicnews :P

That thread seems to be about a different issue (though I get the stuttering mentioend there as well.) I'm talking about sound corruption here - after a point, some sounds stop playing , and others become screeches/static noise.

Sgupta, I did have some problems like that in CSS now that you mention it. It only seemed to happen on Office though - the hostages would get corrupted (heh), and sometimes a firefight in the hallway would have some sound issues.

Maybe it has something to do with the number of sound channels? The sound options don't allow you to choose the # of channels, or whether you use Miles/EAX/etc (though the bottom does mention using Miles, so perhaps it doesn't use EAX at all regardless.)
