Peter Jackson to produce Halo movie! Hell yeah!

cool, if it resembles the game strongly, then this film could be a winnar.

Ha! Wow. Now I've seen everything. Think Microsoft is a little desperate to make sure that this is a hit? Now they just need to cast Johnny Depp somewhere and get Howard Shore to do the music and its "Look out Oscars!"

Somehow I still don't think even the great Mr. Jackson as Executive Producer can help this film--not for me anyway since I can't stand Halo and will never understand why so many people enjoy such a lack-luster gaming experience.

Does a producer actualy affect the film other than giving it money?

The producer usually gives ideas and influences the movie. Exec. Producers just give money.

OK then. Good.

great post, this just reaffirms my belief that a halo movie can (and will) be good!

why do people hate this movie so much already, **** you asshole cynics, its gonna be ****ing ggreat, and you are gonna be the first in

I'm going to get a bag of cookies and a soda, excuse me. Oh yeah! Great news!

Executive Producer eh?

The Halo movie has just jumped two points. It's now at 6 out of a possible 10 for predicted excellence (according to my unofficial scale  ).

Well they won't have to spend an assload of money on a main character since he, Master Chief, never reveals his face. So now they can devote the majority of the budget to special effects.

But wait this is Hollywood. They will get some big name overpaid actor and make sure that we see his face about 80% of the time even though it will contradict with the game.

HOLY CHRIST

I would never have predicted this in a million years.

This is awesome.

Executive producer is a role in the entertainment industry that is sometimes difficult to clearly define. Executive producers vary in involvement, responsibility and power. Some executive producers have hands-on control over every aspect of production, some supervise the producers of a project, while others are involved in name only.

I suspect the last on that list is Peter Jacksons role.

Very cool stuff. Another movie i cant wait for.

Deja vu?

I thought this was announced already by Bungie.

Help me!

QFT.

Peter Jackson ftw!
I now have some faith in the movie being decent. :)

Ashton Kutcher is apparently playing the Master Chief....

-Source: Some asshole on the imdb forums.

But who knows?

i'd be more impressed if Peter Jackson was directing this, unless it gets a good director this will still be pants

maybe Ridley Scott'll do it... or Tony if Ridley is busy

some prediction I hav about this movie that will be 100% sure

it will hav big propaganda, a lot, more that the fantastic 4,there will like a buzz like the star wars movies, mtv will be in it in some to increase more hype in the thousands of fans making them act this way
Kmack said:

and will be a lot of massive propaganda

and about the movie well I dont like the game so I dont think I will enjoy it even if is good, and sure it will not be so good cuz just the fact that this movie is based on something very famous sure the makers will be more focused on make it a movie that sells that a good movie

Yeah, I think the fans will probably like it and others most likely won't care all that much--it is still just a videogame after all. Resident Evil and its sequels were awesome games, but the movies were crap and demonstrated as much at the box office. They have got to think SERIOUSLY about casting now, though, and that is REALLY going to make or break it for them. (I can't wait for the first thread on that topic.)

I think it was an extremely shrewd move just to have Peter Jackson's name tied to it anywhere at all because they can now throw around phrases like "Lord of the Rings" and "Academy Award winning director" and such when promoting it which will be sure to catch many people's attention(whether the rest of the trailer/clip holds that attention remains to be seen). I am not sure it will bring PJ fans in though--I love all of his stuff, but this is where it stops for me.

good news i suppose even tho i am not a Halo fan.
if they can get Peter Jackson for a Halo movie, then Valve better manage to get a good director for a Half Life movie.. thats all im saying :p

The singleplayer of the first one coop was fun... but tell me... whats so special about the halo story anyways? I didnt like the game cause of the story. lol.

Yeah true. Still, its good to see a great game being made by a great director. Rather than an otherwise good game being made by a very poor director.

What is he going to do? Pay for the movie production. I'm taking film analysis right now and it is said that the movie producers don't really do much.

That's what the producers do and that's that the exec prod's do.

The downfall is nearing:cheers:

i think you misread it, he's a PRODUCER not the DIRECTOR... we still don't know who the director is, so it's possible they could get a shitty one

wow, you must be a super genius or something, tell me, if you think hard enough can you make a can of coke explode? I mean where did you get the brilliant idea that a movie might have massive propaganda? I also assume your extreme brain power has no use for vowels at the end of words (H-A-V-E)

oh, and for those of you who think Jackson will be involved "in name only"

Los Angeles, CA, October 4, 2005 — Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that triple-Academy Award® winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will serve as the executive producers of HALO, the upcoming feature film based on Microsoft's phenomenally popular video game from Bungie Studios. Jackson and Walsh will provide creative counsel on all aspects of the film via their WingNut Films banner, and Jackson's award-winning companies Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop Ltd. will provide creatures, miniatures and visual effects for the production. The HALO agreement marks the first time that Jackson and Walsh have performed these services on a major studio film that Jackson is not directing.

HALO will be shot in its entirety in Wellington, New Zealand and will make use of the full range of Jackson's state-of-the-art production and post-production facilities, including Weta Digital Ltd., Weta Workshop Ltd., Stone Street Studios and Park Road Post.

and my personal favorite (boosting my confidence in the film even more):

"As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring HALO's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide," said Jackson. "Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we're delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. I'm a huge fan of the game and look forward to helping it come alive on the cinema screen."

why must people be so pessimistic?

My thoughts exactly, Kmack.

Peter Jackson's involvement can only be seen as a good thing and I think you all should have a little more faith in this film, regardless of what you thought of the game.

You made your point to him very clearly, but you didn't have to be such an ass on the spelling.

As an executive producer I seriously doubt he'll spend that much time on the movie, especially considering he'll have his own directorial projects to deal with.

It all hinges on who the Director and Cast are as well as the quality of the script, it's those factors which will determine the direction the film will take.

Peter Jackson is a great director, yes, but he's still only an Executive Producer on Halo. I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic.

im pretty sure that illustrates my point. he is obviously excited, he is using all his special effects departments, its shooting in new zealand, how are you being realistic????

what you just said is completely refuted by an actual news article with his own words. you are just speculating, i am offering up actual proof of jacksons heavy involvement in the project. until i see one of you clowns show me evidence that suggests otherwise i stand by the fact that jackson is (and will remain) heavily involved in the project.

of course the director matters, but whats to say he isnt going to be good? and whats to say the cast wont be. lol, real solid evidence to back that shite up huh...

I have two points to make:
1) The next time Jackson does something by the book will be the first. Even though an Executive Producer isn't normally all that involved with the movie, that doesn't mean he isn't going to be.

2) Its not BS that Jackson is a gamer. He hired the team behind Beyond Good and Evil to make the King Kong game because he was such a big fan of BG&E. He's probably as excited as us to see this movie get made.

halo is a very famous game so sure there lots of propaganda everywhere

that dosent mean that will be good that just means that he will be working hard on it

also not everyone loves halo so if the movie is very simliar to the game I doubt it will be better

Uh...Why don't the make a Movie that has a stronger Story line? I swear. You can't make a Movie from a game based Purely on being a first person shooter. Its story line was. You are a one man army. Destroy these aliens. Blow up a giant Space ring with Grass on one side and A keyboard on the other. Seriously. Half Life 2 has the strongest original Story line i've ever seen. This Movie will be a box office Flunk after all the Halo fans have a good time seeing it 3 times and then its old. It wont have any appeal for anyone else besides them and the guys that like explosians and guns.
