anyone know how to make phone calls over your modem, have it dial, use your speakers to hear and your mic to talk? Is that even possible?

Yeah, its been possible for a long time. If you just want to do it while your computer is offline you can use certain programs to dial and talk. If you want to do it over the internet then it gets a little trickier. If you want to hook your phone up to the internet you're going to want to get a contract with one of the new Voice Over IP services (such as Vonage).

For VoIP to work, you'll need to make an agreement with your internet provider.

Yeah, but I have a feeling what hes looking to do is just use his computer as a glorified phone and make calls in the normal way. Its a cheap way to get a speaker phone, but its not going to save you any money.

actually its not for me a friend from work wanted to know if I knew anything about that kind of thing and I don't so I turned to you guys. You've been a lot of help though, thanks! I'll pass it along...

Hey thanks again for the reply, do you know any of these programs off the top of your head? Preferably freeware, that I could recommend to my friend?
Thanks again...
