I learned an important life lesson, this day.

I learned to always check your pockets before washing clothes. I left my phone in the pocket of a pair of my jeans, and stuck it in the washer. Accidentally, of course. Now it's acting erratically and doing silly things. I fear I may need a new one.

I've heard many people doing this. Just open it up, let it dry out for a couple of days and give it a shot. Should work. I've had my old phone drop in the toilet *thank god after I flushed* and just let it dry and it was just fine.

It may be to late. My phone went though the washing machine and i just removed the battery, used the hair dryer on it and left it next to the fan for a couple of days and it was fine. Switching it on while it's still wet inside will damage it and the longer you keep trying to use it, the worse it will become.

I'm afraid pimpin is right , the water can cause shorting between lines , but the weirdness might just be from signals getting mixed up. Microchips like this have a really high tolerance in terms of current and voltage , so i wouldn't say that all is lost . You're rather lucky that nothing happened to the battery , most of those batteries are made of lithium polymers which literally explode in water.

I had an LG phone that I dropped from a 3rd story window right into the pool of the motel and it didn't even turn off. I was kinda amazed.


On another note, set a Samsung on fire (and I made a thread about it) and it didn't even stop working.

I went on a water ride at Universal Studios with a brand new phone and within 2 hours of drying it was working like new. Just air dry it in the bright sun if you can, if not use a hair dryer and some patience.

I've done this with about 3 or 4 phones so far, and each time they never worked again. Got really expensive, but now I have finally gotten into the habbit of not washing my phones. Hopefully it will last and I wont wash my really expensive phone anymore.

First thing is to remove the power source, then air dry it for several days. And if it's battery operated, be sure to remove and dry the batteries because they corrode and leak really easily. The acid corrosion will spread and corrode the terminals in your device. Even years old dried out battery acid will burn your skin very painfully too.

I have learned my lesson. I had an 8gb ipod, and a 2gb I think, and I accidentallty washed both in my pants pocket. I did the 2 gb on like... 3 years ago, and the 8 gb 2 years ago. Not sure tht it was 2gb tho. I forget.

You shouldn't have used a hair dryer. It can blow water particles into little nooks and cranies in the device that are even worse than where the water got to in the first place. The heat is also really bad for the circuitry. Never use a hair dryer to dry electronics. A hoover is better to use but still not ideal. Best is just to take it appart and leave it sit.

Yep, been there, done that. Though, when I did it, I didn't think it would work again so I got a new phone in the meantime. The old one started working after being dried out for a week, so it went to one of my aunts.

No, but seriously, it's working fine now. Damn near unbreakable thing, I knew I shouldn't have been worried. I've thrown it down my stairs out of frustration, dropped it from my 3rd story window, stepped on it, sat on it, bitten it, and now it's been washed. I like the "old-as-shit-but-godmode-enabled" phone of mine.

I did the same thing but I also ran it through the dryer before remembering about it. First it wouldn't turn on. Second day it would turn on but you could only see half the screen and it was upside down. A few days after that it not only worked perfectly but it was sparkly clean.
