Ive recently been getting into digital art and things like character models and designing, and im wondering, what kind of programs do i need for this kind of thing? photoshop? cause its around 150 for the photo shop elements im not sure if thats the right one to get tho... any other input about how to get started or what to buy would be AWSOME! thanks

For 3d modeling you'll need either 3DsMAX (£lots or heavily cut down free version that doesent work with HL2), maya (£lots or cut down free version) or SoftImage XSI (£lots or slightly cut down free version) which is the official modeler for HL2.

For graphics you'll want photoshop. There are alternatives, but none come close to photoshop.

Good man :)

If you want you can try out Corels Painter 8 its about 300 or so

photo shop elements 2 absolutely. Its a good price (over in Australia) with good value. Its like having the version of photoshop, yet for the average user. However, a word of warning, its not as easy as some other budget image editors to get into. for the use of textures and the like prob the best option because its got the same capabilities as photoshop, layers, filters etc. Hope that helps!

everbody doesnt do it. and they wont. anybody that plans to make profit off it will buy it, which is a lot of businesses and other artists. If I couldnt warez photoshop I wouldnt buy it, so eitehr way they arent making money, and 1 way Ill have it and enjoy it. And possibly use it down the line if I ever get into that line of work, in which case I will buy it, ehnce they make money because of me warezing it. Check mate.

heh, its the classic yet sloppy warezer response. nothing new here. the problem with this line of thinking is you can only guess what you WOULD do if you couldn't warez photoshop, since you haven't actually been in the situation(its like saying you would kill a thousand nazis if somehow you were in world war 2, yet if you were actually there it would be a different story). so because of this, there is a possibility you would buy it. this is something you can never disprove, unless somehow we lived in a world where you could not warez photoshop. next.

Teminator's got a point. If you DO warez something fancy (which I'm not condoning), it's risky to ever release something that used it to the public. All it takes is one guy to see it and say "Where di you get the program you used?" to get busted. Especially so if people have to pay for whatever you make, in which case you HAVE to own the program or you could be charged for much worse.

ok, so your theory deals with alternate dimensions, mine deals with me not having the money to waste on photoshop, which I wouldnt buy. which is more probable?

In a world where I couldnt warez stuff, would be teh same world where I dont care about computers that much, because Id only have a few games and thatd be it, I wouldnt want to get photoshop becasue most people who have it now havent bought it in which case I wouldnt have any motivation to buy it and create things lie them. Next.
