Physgun (_not_ gravity gun)

Hey all

I, along with many others, had a chance to play the HL2 beta leak. Before you bash me for doing so, it was a main reason i bought the game when it came out.

Anyways, there was a weapon in the leak called a Physgun...you can weld things, as well as pickup/hold objects (including corpses) with a beam-like grip. If i remember correctly, the command to get it was "give weapon_physgun", which aparently doesn't work anymore.

Does anyone know where this weapon is? There must be a console command somewhere...

People seem to think the Physgun is the "super" gravity gun...it's not. At least it's not the same physgun as was in the leak.

thanks

No, it was just for the e3 video, but the code for it will be included in the SDK.

Guess what? You need to learn how to use the search button.

The physgun was cut sometime after the leak in 2003.

It was probably cut because it's pretty useless for actual combat.

Also, shame on you! :p

I don't see why people assumed that Valve would've put this in. I mean, I can't think of anywhere I'd have used it in the game.

"OH NOES! The Combine is shooting at me. I know, I'll move this table 3 feet to the left. OH NOES! It didn't work. And now I'm dead".

True, but it's great for carefully manipulating objects, like with physics puzzles.

It would be the most genious weapon for MP, but would ruin SP.

Oh look, a door blocking my buggy from driving on. Instead of figuing out the buzzle, let's just stick a bunch of tires together and glue on a piece of metal and wah-la! Easy game known to date!

How would you use it in MP?

I remember hearing right after the binks with it that neither guns were going to be in the final game, but they decided that the Gravity gun was actually useful for combat, the Psygun however was never intended to be in the Final release.

yeah, it was super fun to play with...i heard people talking about welding other stuff onto your vehicle (edit: as armor), etc. There's more to a game than just killing people and using things as weapons :p

oh, and i searched, but came up with little, thats why the new thread :D

It was originally for demonstration purposes in E3 2004. I assume it was cut because what use would it be in the game? Although it was cut, the code for the Physgun will be included in the SDK for mod purposes.

it may not be cool for single player but for multiplayer it could be a campers ticket home
ex just make a house sitting up on some wall

I think the Manipulator was always going to be in the game. The only change I heard Valve made was to give the player it earlier, because all of the testers were having so much fun with it.

erm dude he kinda sed he was talking about a different one than that. sheez.

as for the physgun, my mate who got the beta (i only got broadband recently so there was no point me getting it) shown me it, and the gun had no model. if he had the pistol out, and changed it to physgun, it would just shoot or woteva from what appeared as a pistol. It really was the coolest gun, but as someone said it would make the game far too easier.

Oops. :x
My mistake.

the physgun is in hl2. it's the blue gravity gun. check the programming. the blue gravity gun is called physgun or something similar.

Everyone would see you there, and stay out of your line of fire.

And then someone with 'nades would wander by...

All this welding talk makes me anxious for Natural Selection....

Did they remove the Tau Cannon too? I know it's on the buggy, but I remember seeing shots of it where the player had it in his hands. The reason I'm asking is because I haven't clocked HL2 yet. If they did remove it, will it be in the SDK too?

I'm still trying to figure out why they would make a conscious effort to completely remove it from the game... even if you would have needed a cheat to access it in the first place. I mean, all it could do is help the game's replay value by allowing people to mess around with the welding function after they beat the game normally the first time or two. If it caused an occasional problem they still should have left it in because modifying a lot of console variables/commands can cause errors... but those weren't removed.
