Physgun: Installation and Use Guide

As most of you already know, there has been made a mod which allow you to play HL2 with the Physgun shown in a E3 movie (exept it uses the same skin as the manipulator).

I see many people having trouble installing the mod as well as using it so here is a short guide which hopefully will be to some help.

1. Installment

First you need to download the mod, which is situated here:

Physgun Mod

Once your download is finished, extract the content to the directory wich include the Half Life 2 exe file. (Steam\Steamapps\<your username>\half life2\<extract here>)

Now you must cailbrate Half Life 2 to apply the mod.

If you're using Steam, rightclick on Half Life2, go to Properties, click on Launch Options and type in: <-console -game jbmod>

If you've made a shortcut on your desktop, rightclick on the icon, go to Properties and in the "target" line it should look something like this depending on where your Steam files are situated: <"c:/Valve/SteamApps/Etc/Hl2.exe" -console -game jbmod>

2. Getting Started

Launch Half Life 2.

Note that you are no longer capable of loading a game from one of your previously saved games. You must load a map useing the console-command: map <mapname> to load new levels.

If you want your savegames back sometime, simply remove the launch-commands explained above.

Once you've started a game in a map of your desire, open the console and enter: <get weapon_physgun>

When you close the console the physgun (which looks exactly like the manipulator) should be in your hands, and in the weapons-meny #6 under the granades and possibly the RPG.

3. Using the Physgun

The primary trigger of the Physgun launches a blue beam which allows you to grab non-organic objects to move them around as you please.

The secondary launches a red-welding-mass.

To weld two objects togeather, one red-welding-mass must be placed on both of the objects on the location you want them to be connected.

When this is accomplished you must use the primary beam to move one of the objects onto to other to make the two red masses meet.

At the moment the beam turns from blue to red you release the primary trigger and the two objects will then be succesfully connected. Note that this final phase only occurs when the two red-welding-masses are in contact.

If anyone have found a way to increase the amount of red-welding-masses, please let us now. As for now, the number is 36 (I think), and the moment you press reload all the red-welding-masses is "unwelded" and returned to your inventory allowing you to use them again.

Hope you'll find this useful!

Add any corrections or comments as you please to the thread and I will make changes if necessary.

Good Luck Welding!

(My very first thread actually  )

thanks, but it's still not working for me...it keeps saying "gameinfo.txt does not exist in jpmod". Have I installed it to the right directory: c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\<username>\half-life 2\jpmod ? or am i meant to move the files inside the jpmod directory (bin, cfg, resource, scripts etc) into the main half-life 2 directory?

I used a memory editor to give me 100 ammo. However, after the 36 blobs were in play, it crashed the next time i shot. So you can get more ammo; you just cant use it :-/ Must not be programmed to allow more

oh wait ive just realised my stupid mistake...i misread the mod name as jPmod when it's actually jBmod.....duuuhh

Speedkills: So it's working then? Good for you!

Well I guess we'll just have to spend those 36 blobs wisely, and hope some future patch will solve the problem.

Mouldy Punk: Screenies of what exactly. I haven't actually had time to weld that much at this moment, so if you want some nice screenshots and movies of stuff people have made, check out this thread instead:

I'm going to wait for a version of the mod that ISN'T made by a known cracker, warezer and exploiter of Valve's leaked source code. There are plenty of other decent people working on making fun mods that use the physgun, and I'll support them.

Apos: I can assure you, this mod is not bugged, and works perfectly fine with the correct installation procedures.

There are already plenty of people on this site and elsewhere using it, and no one have reported any problems except minor glichtes that are fixed upon re-launching the program.

But no one are forcing you to install it, so do as you like. But your missing a lot of fun. :p

Dalamari: Does an error message appear in the console when you type in the give command?

If it says "Failed to load launcher DLL" then delete the
...\half-life 2\bin
...\half-life 2\hl2.exe
...\half-life 2\hl2
files and folders. Corrupted.
Relaunch HL2 from Steam to rebuild those files, exit, and retry your shortcut.

the command is give weapon_physgun, not get as mentioned in the first post.

help..its saying gameinfo.txt doesnt exist in jbmod?..what do i do

Oops, sorry 'bout that guys, he's right

Damn this short edit time! :frown:

the physgun looks awesome, too bad i have to wait a couple of days til i can play hl2 again

ok so i get the mod to run fine and all, but i just cant seem to get stuff to weld. whenever i try it the blue doesnt seem to be able to get things to connect and when i big up barrels and such they start spinning wildly making it impossible to connect, is there anyway to make it so things held on by the blue beam remain still rather then spinning and dropiing?

No wonder I was having a hard time spawning it. I kept typing get instead of give.

Redjackel: Well I guess it's one of the reasons it never made it to the final version of the game, it's impossible to control, or at least difficult.

But whenever you've got two blobs one two objects not far from each other and you use the primary beam, you'll notice that the one your beam is aiming at immediatly starts moving closer to the other blub. Now if you just hold the beam and move around changing positions, it will eventually connect and, after some spinning, hopefully in the way you wanted.
