Physics Demo

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9157/Balllag.jpg

Only way I could bring my system to a crawl with this demo, was by making a ton of balls. I did this by pausing the demo and mashing the 1,2,3,4,5 keys again and again for about 5 minutes... and then letting it go. Oddly enough, it went slowest as the balls were all still in one big 'bunch'... it looked just like one ball. Once it hit something forcing them *ALL* to seperate, it sped up dramatically.

i'm betting that the reason it went so slow at first was because it had to calculate all those collisions at once, and when they seperated there was much less calculations going on, and normal framerate ensued...

Would I be correct by assumeing that you got the link from my article?

yeah, i probably should have given you credit for the link. sorry Mr. Chimp. i was a bit lazy, and if i knew off hand who had written the article i would have said who the original finder of Meqon was.

So anyway, thanks a lot for a great article and physics demo recommendation!

no problem.

I'm just trying to remember where I got the link from now... I think it was from a engine demo, I doubt it was UE3, that uses Nova i think. All the other games that use physics I can think of either use Havok, there own or that open Source one.

Download the Dvix off the front page it's quite amuseing.

this is awesome. Does anyone know an FPS that uses physics like this? Just a simple one though, like a demonstration to show off the physics.

Anyone know where I can find a key for the Novodex SDK? :x

Love these demos. Gonna try out Gish now...

I love it. I truely can image what Gabe ment with "You can walk around City 17 for hour's".

It is just great fun for all. Thanks for the link!

The procedural walk is a lot of fun. I have this evil twist to take a guy thats running away scared and toss him around for a bit, heheh

By chance... are any one of you modding geniuses able to construct a new map or manipulate the old one of the box stacks, so that its a giant solid square constructed of a ton of the teeny ones? What would have been so awesome, is if that castle one had the whole thing constructed from the little squares! Or as much as humanly possible. Heh heh heh.

I want more to interact with, with the box stack one... anyone able to mod it?

The "meqdemos.exe"? When I open it it only says that "SDL.dll" could not be found.

Try redownloading the file, it does work, maybe it just never got to finish correctly.

Cool links, I liked the jeep one crashing into the towers, one of tower legs went but the tower started to move forward like it was walking. :stare:

Nope, still doesn't work.

OMG, i found the coolest thing (sorry if it has been posted already). To pick up more than one object (including ragdolls), hold the object, then scroll your mouse wheel, then release the mouse button, then pick up another object normally, and you will be in control of both object. Repeat this as much as you want :)

sigh... go to havok's website and download the fallguy demo.

WowoW one of best threads ever. Thx a lot for links

thx bro :p

*EDIT* check that other game out aswell thats even more fun =)

valve should contact them maybe they could help each others

Email gabe!

Sweet. When you pause it, press 4 a bunch of times aiming (in procedural walk) and unpause. It's like a shotgun :)

Haha.. doing that when you're up close to all of them, they all fly off the screen to the rear and re-pop and fall in a big heap :)

Sweet. I blew one guy's leg through the ground, and he hobbles around as if he was actually gimped.

Crazy. Pause the simulation. Fire a ball. Move the camera. Fire a ball. Move the camera. Fire a ball. Repeat as needed. Get a good overhead view of the action, then unpause :)

Btw on the demo with the contaner and all the balls fall inside. Do this start and RIGHT WHEN IT STARTS MOVE CONTANER away. You will see a bug in the engine. Looks great. Ill post a pic but i dont know how. :(

open the rag doll demo and press space about 100 times... that should do it ;)

I'm not sure if this has been said or not, but hit f6 to step through each frame, pretty farkin nice! :)

Im still playing around with this demo lol.
