I REALLY like the new barrel HOLES
THOUGH the wood decals looks better before
The wall bullet holes are kinda IFFY
and the tile looks a LOT SHINY (I like The update) :naughty:

Read: OLS VERSION and UPDATE i switched pics back and fotrth so read the headings on the pics

thats a pretty groovy bug! restart CS/ steam? fixed my problems. Or you may have to reinstall the game. I dont know.

I like the update very much!
 
No you cant fix that ..as far as I know ..

You probably have a Geforce of some sort . Thats why you get the hands like that
 
Cool post skater4evr5, thanks for the pics. I've been playing with the new patch for a few hours, and I've gotta say the new bulletholes are a downgrade in all cases but the barrels. Those barrel/metal bulletholes are really great and show off the depth nicely.

However, like I mentioned, for wood and stone bulletholes, I think they should revert to the old textures. Before the patch, the aftermath of a gunfight was really great, and the bulletholes everywhere was sweet. Now that they're harder to see, the walls don't look very damaged at all.

Lastly, increasing the shine on the floor tiles was a great idea. It's much more noticeable but not overdone.

old wall decals are much better, all the other new ones are greatly improved
 
Can someone post more pics, I wanna compare them some more.

Personally I thought that bug actually rocked. Love the silver.

Just restart, it will automatically fix.
 
Sucks that you lost 10 fps on that tile picture after the new patch tho.
 
The bump-mapping on the tiles seemed more prononced in the new update - I agree, I lost around 9 FPS indoors.
 
I especially like the barrel holes, look very realistic now, but i agree that the wall and wood textures are somewhat lacking when compared to the previous decals, also I don't have a dx9 card so I don't get to see the pretty tile effects...
 
hehe, I must be the only one that likes the wood textures :)

Dont like the wall ones though.

P.S. Metal ones are good too :)
 
Kewl thing is these type of updates will keep going! as hardware changes and we see DX 10 Support valve will update with various features.
Seems like they optimised there normal maps, not bad at all.
 
What about the weapons! Someone should post some of the weapon changes - I know that the dualies, the terrorist auto-sniper, the ct silenced machinge gun, the scout (I think) were reskinned and they all look a lot nicer :D.

Truth is, that after 10 HS in a row you get goldmodel just because you're kickass...
 
Some of my friends encountered that problem of glossy hands. Try enabling bump-mapping, it worked for them.

But their FPS fell down 10 frames. :( - sucks to have a GeForce FX.
 
Anyone else noticed when you or others are in the vicinity of a smoke grenade and you shoot, the smoke kind of lights up. Looks awesome.

WTF is wrong with you people!?!?!?!? please explain to me how those bullet holes on metal are better! maybe on the barrel they look good, but shoot a car or something, and notice that you can see the freaking pixelation on the bullet hole, and it's nothing but a black dot!

On the old bullet holes, you could see the metal torn and crumpled around the hole, you could see where it was seared, and every once and a while it would just be a pockmark. But the pockmarks were even better than this new one!

Eh, are we playing the same game?

My decals aren't pixelated - are you sure you weren't having any artifacts?
 
I've got CS:S running in dx9 (forced via the command line -dxlevel 90) on a 5900XT, it all looks so sweet:D
FPS hardly dropped at all after the update, hehe, I have been getting the wierd purple floor since the upsadte tho, but only on 2xAF so I can live with that (haven't tried AF on dx8.1 yet). Not sure about the walls and wood hit decals...but the metal hit decals are very swish, lovely:) .
But best of all I was top of the scoreboard last night, but not thru shooting to the left or right of people- I was getting kills from actually shooting AT people! YAY cool update imho.
 
to fix purple floor, mess with your relfection settings. i think you need reflect world or something, maybe its a water reflection thing im not sure but take a look and mess with it until its right.

im downlaoding teh new update now (on 56k) i have 253 minutes remaining

Hmm, looking at the hands in those pictures....I prefer the original ones tbh. A tad too red, the new ones are, hmm yes.

Cheers dude, I'd noticed that was on by default when I was using trilinear, but it did switch it off for some reason when I switched to 2xAF, so I'll check that one out:)

On a side note I did try it back on dx8.1 and the floor didn't screw up regardless of setting, so I guess thats the flaw valve were talking about in regards to dx9 on nvidia FX cards- if you don't set everything just so, things start to go awry. Oh well guess I'll just have to set it up right then:)

they put reflections on everything.Now your fingernails even reflect.And the barrel decals are bump mapped :O
 
Yeah there's some sweet effects on the guns inside the tunnel now, dx9 really does look the badgers nadgers now:)

edit: if you take a look at the ravenholm bink, you'll see the same "golden hands" bug near the end.

yea. the wood definitely needs work, but i could get used to it. Wall i think it looks best older.

i think the update is uber crap... the new decals are less realistic than the already unrealistic ones

They didn't change them much, just took away his vain a bit, made it blend in more.
