Growing up I always thought Ninjas were awesome, but I guess there are just too many lame games and movies using Ninjas, and they are hardly represented very well. Pirates kick ass. They don't give a ****. Samurai's I find interesting also.

Anyway, I like them both, but I'm just tired of everything Ninja ninja ninja!! we have ninjas! Tom cruise, the last ninja! The last samurai ninja! Three ninjas! Ninja kid! teenage mutant ninja turtles! Ask a ninja! Nina the Ninja. The ninja boy, The black ninja! For real this time, this is the LAST NINJA! Ninja Gaiden! STrider the ninja. What Ennui said. Before, I looooved the concept of the ninja. It was kickass in human form. However, I started thinking. I remembered my early days, watching such classic movies as Shipwrecked, and fantasizing about voyaging the high seas. Ah yes, what a life. PIRATE!

On image alone, pirates win - and I'll tell you why. The perfect ninja is a shadow. A phantom. A silent wedge of matt-black death. In short, the perfect ninja is never seen, and no-one ever knows he's there. The perfect pirate, meanwhile...well, you can't miss him.

At its core, it's a question if ideology. Ninjas, with their code, their secrecy and their exclusive nature, have a philosophy of ultimate honour to a certain creed. They never kill anyone they don't have to kill, never do anything they don't have to do, and find peace in the barest essentials of the universe/life. They will not betray their creed, nor partake in any action that is not necessary. For them, the simple things are the most precious, and almost everything in this world is just fluff getting in the way of true enlightenment.

Pirates are the opposite. For pirates, life isn't worth living if it isn't lived to the full. Drinking, drugs, sex, flamboyant raving madness - it's all good, and it's all essential. Anything goes, and **** society. Choose your own life. Choose your own destiny. Choose your own action in this forever incomprehensible and godless world. Because for pirates, there is really only one thing that matters, and that is freedom.

It's not about the silly hats, the swords, the cannons, the black, the ships or the stars or the guns or the blowpipes, the arrs or the engrish. It's about whether you want to devote yourself to a higher purpose, knowing that there is more beyond this world, or whether you want to create your own, and enjoy it while you can.
