since i got my 512k after being with 56k for 4 years...... im now able to do the things i couldt do with 56k...play online games! now planetside intrests me, but i hear u got to friggin pay to play?!?! can anyone tell me if its really worth it... i hear its like 5 uk pounds a month? which isnt all that bad if its a kick ass game.

I played it from the start of beta till the end of beta. It is definately not worth subscribing for. The novelty wears off after a week or two of playing it, and it just gets completely monotanous... and you start to ask yourself why you are paying so much to fight a pointless battle.

Besides, you don't only have to subscribe, you have to buy the thing too... and to pay for a game and then subscribe too is just not right... definately not worth it in PlanetSides case.

ok thanks..endless battle? so theres no objective in the game...thought it would be like 2 planets fightin against each other...first to blow up the enemys planet wins then restart :////////////////////////// lol

that's a big NO. planetside is the best thing ever for the first month or so, then it gets so boring and so repetitive you just want to throw the thing away. try it out for a week (dunno if they're still doing that) and see what you think.

definitely worth trying since they've added so much since the end of the beta...i might check that out myself...

though at the end of the beta, it wasn't worth paying for by any stretch of the imaginiation. if it was free (or cheap with no subscription fee) i would've played it a lot...it was fun enough for that...but not a monthly fee :\

Eh I bought it the first week it came out and stopped playing 2 weeks later. I went back to it when they added platoons and other things but it didnt do much for it.

i bought it unfortunetaly and played it for a couple weeks.. there were some cool battles to be had, but they were few and far between..

Planetside can become a tad repetitive, as all you ever do is capture similar - looking bases all day.. but trust me, its one of the funnest things u can do!

imagine this. i start off as a dropship pilot (i dont have the game anymore, and i cant remember the vehcles names!) and i hook up with a squad of average players. Were an odd-ball team, with two fighters, one heavy fighter, two battlesuits, a jeep and some grunts. I get in a dropship and all the people crowd inside, including the jeep.
Were off! i head straigt for the warpgate with my fighter escorts. we are heading to an enemy base that is under fire from out team- and our team needs some serios backup. the fighter pilots screams (when i say scream, i mean hes talking on teamspeak, a microphone program) TAKING FIRE!! and as soon as we turn to face him, we see his flaming ship hurling tawards the bottom of the lake we are flying across.
Now heres the problem- a lake. we cant jump out!! so its me and two fighters, fending off two other fighters. One of our fighters goes down, but we emerge victorios.
We come to the base. Immediately, a stream of rockets comes hurling tawards my dropship. "WATCH OUT" i scream to the fighter, and a few of the rockets hit, but my ship is generally OK.
The fighter lands, and i say to the players: "ok, this is it. in a few seconds my ship is going to blow, so im gonna fly as fast as humanly possible over the base- skimming the roof, and i want you to all jump out!!" So we zoom over our losing troops, and as if a gift from the heavens, backup comes hurtling down from my dropship.
the fire is directed away from me, to the incoming hostilities and i escape with only one passanger- an engineer, who patches up my ship ready for the E-vac. Then, once concealed behind trees, we leave the dropship to help our forces- and meet our fate.

what im trying to say is that whil planetside IS repetitive and CAn be boring, you reel feel like your part of a team and that YOU have made a difference between a minor victory and major defeat.

I had some major fun in the trial, but I can't really speak for what its like now.
If you want the shooting without the MMO aspect the closest you're going to really get is Battlefield.

yeah suicide pretty much covered what planetside can be like at it's best. it truly is a huge war sometimes. i remember getting up to CR5 and being able to call in EMP strikes and the like. dunno what they've added since but it had potential. i might pick it up again in the summer seeing as i'll probably be bored most of the time.

but like any other game planetside was riddled with morons and general idiots. lag was also a huge issue and it's probably still the main reason i stopped playing. i'd log in, grab my gear, grab a gal or a mosq and join my outfit members wherever they were fighting and then it would crawl to 2 frames per second with players lagging in and out and it just wasn't fun at all.

anyone remember how you couldn't fire in the jumpgates? well once we had to escort an ant to collect some nanites and we bumped into the enemy. it was weird because we couldn't attack eachother. we ended up having a conversation and both sets of soldiers agreed how awesome planetside was. ahh those were the days. it completely felt like you were part of something big, especially with moments like that where you met the enemy on strange terms. as it happens after we'd fueled up we waited for them to leave and ambushed them further down the hillside, such is war.

The game would be a lot better if the game lasted for a month...then a team wins...and starts over the next month...so you basically pay for a 1 month game...i hate how it goes on and on....theres no point because you can never win :( but its very neat...nice for a FPS MMO ....im looking forward to a WW2 mmo game heheheh that would be neat on omaha beach....or another....anyway is 7.5/10

does anyone know what core combat is like? i saw that in the shops, and in a review i read there planning for many more, including a space 1 and more planets etc.

Core combat got abysmal scores.
Not enough for the money and almost no one even goes to the new areas. Some people have captured entire caverns without firing a shot and won't run into another player for days down there.
