The documents in question give evidence of planning to invade Iraq before 9/11, they show neo conservative plans for privatisation of sectors controlled by OPEC, and put forward a long term plan for control to improve the western economy.

By Greg Palast

Reporting for BBC Newsnight (London)

'Why was Paul Wolfowitz pushed out of the Pentagon onto the World Bank? The answer lies in a 323-page document, secret until now, indicating that the allies of Big Oil in the Bush Administration have defeated neo-conservatives and their chief Wolfowitz. BBC Television Newsnight tells the true story of the fall of the neo-cons. An investigation conducted by BBC with Harper's magazine will also reveal that the US State Department made detailed plans for war in Iraq -- and for Iraq's oil -- within weeks of Bush's first inauguration in 2001'.

The planned coo was still to overthrow saddam, then its down to buisness.. the morning after was all about oil.

If you want to have a real discussion give us a BBC link.

cha-ching ....I've been saying it all along ..there's more to it than just that but it's confirmation

hey guys: Raziaar, Rakurai, seinfeldrules, PFCKebean, Kerberos, Hapless, Top Secret and others (you know who you are) ...I'm interested in your reaction to these documents

womp womp....

They'll discard this one, like they do every other FACT slapped in their faces.

I knew that there original story of "liberating Iraq" was too good to be true. :x

EDIT: Honesly though...you think this will change anything?? I doubt it. The US government will say "screw you" and continue to do what they are doing. Plus...everytime someone tries to charge the government with a crime or falsely led information, they just throw it right back down their throats. I'm afraid nobody can do anything about this.

well then if nothing is done ..I hope they dont come crying when more airplanes slam into the sides of buildings

unfortunately what can you do to prevent idiot's with a lust for money and power?, the whole system is built in such a way that it thrives off of it, it hints at corruption at some of the highest levels of government...

I mean privatisation of oil companies! someone is a greedy bastard, the only thing that can keep a proper democracey safe from it ever getting out of hand is more none profit public intervention, but again the flaw here is money = power.. there needs to be more power given to those who can be trusted and not have it revolve purely around the elite and risk a stupid **** getting into power, thats how hitler got there, we need to learn from our mistakes and act upon them.. there really needs to be system changes reguarding evidence like this.

The scary thing is, if this is completely true, which I've assumed this to be the case from the start. This gives a little more credence to all those "conspiracy theories"...

I still think that if this is true, Bush over-exceeded his authority and put us into a position thats not negotiable.

hold his administration responsible ..arrest Paul wolfowitz, Cheney, Powell, Bush, Rumsfeld and everyone else involved in a deception that sent 1800 americans to their graves ...anywhere else in the world the citizens would have flipped out by now

anyways, you couldnt have had time to read it all ...I'd like to hear your reaction ...and thx for posting in this thread :)

Bush truly understands how valuable oil will be in the next few years, none of you seem to grasp that.

That wasn’t the original reason. Jesus, no wonder politicians can get away with murder (sometimes even literally), everyone has such tiny memory’s. It was Saddams fabled link to terrorists, and his masses of non-existent WMDs.

i read an article titled, "The Fall of the House of Saud" in The Atlantic, written back in 2003 about King Fahd's decline and how in-cohoots the US has been with Saudi Arabia for over thirty years. Our economy is so tied to theirs it's scary. So this thread doesn't surprise much, considering what I read today too. We're so dependent on Saudi Arabia and the stability of the mid east like Iraq.

example:
what do i care if iran or china is going to attack the western world with nukes...my goal is to get as rich as possible befor it happens and with it have the best chanse for survival of me and my loved ones! screw you all, sorry but this is how life (sadly) works!

Now Stern, this is where I love the second amendment. And is EXACTLY what it was intended for. Revolution! Where is my .45? My Big Gauge, and my twin 92F's?

*Listens to Revolution/Revolución By Ill Niño.*

*Edit*

oh damn, I'm nearing my thousanth post, and it's only been two years. o_O

Goverment = Country.

Where's the beef? I see alot of, "Insiders say," with nothing to back it up. Where's the rest of the "secret documents obtained from the State Dept?" Why are the two segments he has posted dated 12/19/03 and 02/21/03? How do these documents prove that there was a conspiracy in 2001 to invade Iraq for the oil? Is this the same Greg Palast who insists that both the 2000 and 2004 elections were fixed, when that notion has been disproven? Not to mention the fact that this whole article/vdeo thingy is dated in March of 2005...if there was any truth to this, why hasn't it been trumpeted all over the media? Nice try. This is about as convincing as a Michael Moore movie.

That, is where you are wrong. And something you'll never understand. When this country was put down by its founding fathers, the goverment was designed to self destruct if it became against the people. That is what the second amendment is FOR. Revolution is healthy. And we haven't had one in quite a while.

Now please, shut up.

You will never understand, and I don't expect you to.

In comment to Hapless:

The only election in US Presidency history I'm convinced was fixed was Kennedy's. But that's neither here nor there. :) I think Bush was re-elected for the simple reason that, well, to be honest, because people from other countries wouldn't shut the **** up. Americans saw it as being told what to do, so naturally they, we, did the opposite thing. I'm not going to apologize for the American people, because I don't think one is owed, but please, realise why everything happened.

To Stern:

I like you, and respect your opinions about America, it's people, and American Goverment, but why am I mentioned at the start of a thread when I don't even post here often? Am I your opposition? Your enemy? Or were are you trying to see how I can "Pull this one off" so to speak? I agree with more things you say in here than I go against. Hell, you're Canadian right? That's just where all the nice Americans live. ;)

Well, about the US, anyway.

YES, YES!!!! I say we jail them for life for deliberately deceiving they're own country for the sake of profit. It's about time these pigs are held accountable for their actions. I want justice.

I think American citizens have been manipulated so much that most people believe the lies that the government feeds us. It would have to take a decade or more of constant war for people to finally get fed up with the leaders of this nation and demand action. I'm tired of it. More must be done.

Trust me, something will happen. If not now, then when people realise.

I know that nothing will probably happen. That's just the nature of our country. Those in power get away with murder and the less fortunate get locked up for life. It's a sad reality.

"if you build it they will come"

top secret: as someone who supported the war I was curious as to your reaction to the documents, no hidden agenda here ..your thoughts on the documents + suplemental links provided above would be appreciated

Wow, it really was for oil?

Even I had discounted that possibe motivation as unrealistically evil.

Sorry Americans. I hope you find and end to this mess.

First off, I dont blame the US Gov't for planning to topple Saddam using a coup d'etat. That would have been a good thing. They arent talking about planning an invasion, merely installing a new leader. How can that be a bad thing? We are talking about one of the worst dictators of our time.

Secondly, that article is clearly slanted, intentionally or not. There is no real attempt to portray the second side of the story. I think you guys are too keen to jump on everything before hearing the other side.

Finally, I hate it when the media uses sources, but doesnt cite them. "Insiders told us..." For all we know the 'insider' is merely a janitor that cleans the Pentagon or State Dept. Overall I feel that the Iraqi people should be in charge of their own oil. They democratically elected a Gov't that should deal with the issue. If they want to do us a favor and **** over OPEC thats fine with me.

Ms Jaffe says US oil companies are not warm to any plan that would undermine Opec and the current high oil price: "I'm not sure that if I'm the chair of an American company, and you put me on a lie detector test, I would say high oil prices are bad for me or my company."
Bullshit. American companies should be trying to undermine those greedy bastards at OPEC. You pay my gas bill asshole.

EDIT: Excuse me, they DID provide the other side of the story. Its just hidden at the end in italics so people wont read it.

"A State Department spokesman told Newsnight they intended "to provide all possibilities to the Oil Ministry of Iraq and advocate none".

And Stern, nobody that doesnt agree with you on everything will take most of those links seriously. Why not just link to your favorite sites, commondreams.org and democraticunderground.com, and make it offical how left leaning they are. Hell, the one article I looked at was published in "Left Turn" magazine. Get real.
