hi,

ive been trying to get hl2 to run on my computer lately and its causing me problems. it has worked on this exact computer in the past so i don't know what the problem is. Every time I start the game I get an error message that says [platform error: module failed to initialize]. After I close that box I get a hl2.exe application error which says the following,

the instruction at"0x241f94f7" referenced memory at "0x0e5bf41c". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program.

Also just so you know I have a toshiba satellite p105-S6084 and my dxdiag report for system information and display devices are as follows:

If you could help me get this great game running that would be amazing. Thanks a lot.

how do i verify the gcf files?
and i have already checked the drivers and they are up to date

Right click on game on Steam select properties Go to local files tab
Click Verify integrity

i verified the game files and that didn't seem to do much. But then I went into steam and under file > settings > in-game > then I unchecked the enable steam community in-game option and the game would at least start. I was able to get a new game up and running and everything was great until I tried to save then it would crash giving me this error signature:

AppName: hl2.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: datacache.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00008a37

Any help you could give me would be great. Thanks.

I have this exact same problem and I can not figure it out. I re-scanned all my files and they are fine. I ran memtest x86 twice and it came back perfect. This is really angering me... I've ran half life 2 games on this computer many times. DXdiag is attached

Since the affected module is datacache.dll, I strongly recommend a deep scan and defrag on your hard disk. Then re-verify the GCF files.
